L98 vs Built 350

I have a friend at my job who has an older Grand Prix (looks like 80 style regal) with a built 350 in it. He says he has 202/166 heads (Iron), bored .30 over with forged everything, cam with .490 lift (I think), 3.73 gears and built TH350 Tranny. I heard his car a few times, and when it is idoling you can hear it camming pretty hard, so I was scared a little to race. Anyways here is how it went:

Light turned green and we rolled to about 10 mph. He gunned it first and got a jump, I gunned it and started spinning, spun all the way through first. While I was spinning he had his door at my front bumper. I got traction and pulled up to his side, we both shifted into second at same time and at first I started pulling slowly on him, but once we started getting to 70-80 I started pulling hard, and by time I mine shifted into drive, I was a car in front and then once I went into drive, I pulled him very very hard till I saw him let off. By time he let off I was at 120 mph, and had 6-7 cars on him. It was a good race till I just started to blow by him, but it sure was fun....can not wait to go back to work tomorrow and see what he says, cause for two weeks all I heard was how much of a motor he has and how he will blow me away. He called me out and lost.....how funny.......lol. I thought at first he was going ot get me, just by listening to his car and the way it sounded. But the ol L98 came through again.....hehe

Sounds like a race I had with a '91 T/A. The guy was going on and on about how it was a built 383 and it ran low 12's. So we raced a few times. Each time I'd slowly pull out to a couple car lead. It was funny because he kept asking me how my mid-high 13 car was beating his low 12 car. I just kept telling him he needed his slicks, lol.

Re: L98 vs Built 350

lol, well I talked to the guy today and he told me that when I started pulling him hard that he had put it into nuetral instead of drive. I know that isnt true cause with him still beside me at the time, I would have heard the engine rev real high, and I saw him when he let off cause once I got several cars in front of him I saw his front end go down like he had let off. I just laughed at him and told him he had paid over $3.5k for his motor, and I paid $2k for my car (although I did spend $2300 on my tranny two months ago) with 135k on the motor and beat it.........lol. He also said he had .411 rear not .373 like I had previously thought he said. We lined up again today when leaving work, but he didn't want to race again. He said he will do a few things before summer and we can run again, but I didnt tell him what I had planned before summer.....hehe.

Good luck w/ the charger install....FWIW...I was told to use an ATW intercooler not the ATA.

Thanks! No pics of the Chevelle online? Makes me wish I still had my '64 Malibu SS or '72 Nova SS. Great memories though!
