Help me out here, can't get the driveshaft out...(not as simple as you think)

alright... '00 v6 with a ls1 driveshaft in it.


everything is in the same spot as a v8 and set up the same way. Driveshaft was put in like 2 months ago.


Problem is at the track reved up to 3k, let out the clutch and BAM! broke something int he drivetrain. Car is hard to push and sometimes "locked up" even when in neutral. Got the car flatbedded home and in the garage. Trying to pop the driveshaft off and pray that its the 10-bolt nad nothing with the clutch/rear.


Car is jacked up, rear is sagging on stock suspension. I undid the caps that are holding the U-joint in. but I cannot slide the driveshaft forward. Even tried prying it some. the u joint will move so its not seized up in the pinion or anything.


will undoing the rear sway and shocks, and dropping ther rear down farther give me enough room? Any other tips?



Not looking to pull the rear off the car yet, because even though I am praying for it to be the rear that is out(have a spare in the garage) I have a feeling its with the tranny/clutch.

Have you considered disconnecting one or both lower control arms at either the body or rear end? You can try disconnecting one or both sides and pivot the rear end away enough to remove the rear joint. Should work as long as the torque arm is in the mounts, front and rear. Just watch the brake line from the body to the rear end to not over extend it.

I pulled the shaft about two years ago and it was a PITA too. All i can offer is to keep on prying on it. I used a large screwdriver and worked it in the U-joint area until it popped off. Word of advice: lay sideways and keep one of your thighs right up under the end of the shaft for when it pops out. I came close to hurting my shoulder by not doing this. Another thing i did was spray a little WD-40 in the caps and journals before putting it back together... which really helped when i pulled the shaft again last fall. It came right out without the need for prying (keeps it from sticking in there). Hope this helps.

Get a big pry bar and pry that bitch hard.

heeh I have been prying like a mofo... It definitely is not caught up in the U-joint.

I can get one side out(ujoint movement) then slip the other side.

its jsut the driveshaft will not move forward on the tranny.

I dropped the rear(unhooked endlinks, rear shocks) Loosened up the torque arm but have got go do stuff tonight.

I plan to do that and rotate the rear a little nad see if I can get it out that way.
