Gap between converter and flexplate

I am returning my car to stock so I bought a used stock 4L60E converter off ebay. I am installing it now but the converter and the flexplate have a real tiny gap between them. I put a bolt in and then it matches up fine. I thought they were supposed to be flush if the converter was installed all the way back on the shaft of the transmission? The gap is about the width of this smile. ----> :D

I just want to make sure this isn't a problem and if its normal. The motor and transmission are bolted up correctly

BTW are the bolts to hold the converter and flexplate together 45 ft/lbs

It should be flush at final install, meaning tightening down the bolts should mate them together. There is normally a small gap though but normally nothing more then 1/8"-3/16' or the tip of a #2 flathead screwdriver, or to use your measurement method the center tooth (maybe even 2 teeth) of that smile you posted... :D as long as there isn't too much you should be fine, on my screen that little smiley dude is about 1/4 inch so I say that might be too much... BTW, Remeber everyone has their resolution set up differently so screen measurements make it hard to determine the size of things...

Never thought of people having different resolutions. I am going to go back out there and check the gap again. I mean this is a stock 4L60E, converter, and LT1 so I assume this won't be a problem.

Torque specs anyone for those 3 bolts that hold the converter and flexplate together?

So if the gap was like 1/4", then you'd have to shim it with a washer between the converter and flexplate?

Also, what will having too much of a gap cause to happen?

Answer: You should have 1/8" (.125") to 3/16" (.1875") between the torque converter and flexplate before pulling the converter forward and bolting it to flexplate.

if the gap is too far it will pull the convertor out of the pump drive. if it is 1/4 you are on the edge of pump drive and could couse stuff to tear up, such as convertor and/or pump.

i had a simlar problam i wanted to get the motor in my car quickly and i put the flexplate on the wrong way put it all together and in the car went to bolt the torque converter up to the flexplate and im like wth so i had to pull the tranny down and switch the flexplate around there other way.

Are the converter to flexplate bolts around 45 ft/lbs?

Thats an awesome list but I couldn't find the converter bolts. I think I'll go out and buy another Haynes manual. I can't find my other one.
