Any good Mechanic's message boards?danny525 11-12-2005, 03:24 AM After a few failed trys at getting some mechanical advise on some problems on this board, i was wondering if anyone knows of any good mechanical boards to get some questions answered, thanks. SS RRR 11-12-2005, 05:42 AM Problems on this board? I did a search on your screen name and every question you've asked can be covered just by using the search feature. There are multitudes of pages covering exhaust issues and "which is better.." so on and so forth... Regarding your FPR problem... You should get yourself a fuel pressure guage and check to see what pressure it is at when you first turn the key on and while it is running. There is a Schrader valve on the back of the fuel rail (next to the FPR) for you to screw a pressure guage to. I'm not sure what exactly the pressures should be at. I think it should be about 35 to 40psi when the pump is primed (ignition is on the "ON" position) and should be about 45psi when the engine is running with the vacuum from the FPR disconnected. That vacuum hose can be found on the passenger side right in the middle of the intake manifold. Can't remeber if it's top or bottom, but follow the lines and you'll know. The other vacuum line is for your vent control. The line heads towards the PCM and joins a rather thick cluster of wires surrounded by wire lume. After you find out what fuel pressure you are running you can again do a search for fuel related problems and more than likely find out more info... Regarding your diff... Spider gears do not make the rear whine. The only time you know if you have a missing tooth or broken spider gear is if you do a couple of sharp turns/U-turns both left and right and hear/feel a clunk. Spider gears are pretty much stantionary when both axles are going the same direction at the same speed. If the rear is whining all the time then I'd venture to say the ring/pinion gears are not meshing correctly or could be worn from abuse. Again... you can do a search and find all kidns of crap regarding this subject. Bearing... You could be right. Take the serpentine belt off and start the car for a few (won't hurt the battery as long as you only run it for a couple of minutes). Rev the engine and see if you can still hear the noise. If you can't then most likely you do have a bearing going out on one of many accessories. Put the belt back on, jack up the car (USE JACKSTANDS!), put the car in neutral, apply the e-brake, start the car and get under to see if you can zero in on the noise. I think members here have had problems with the idler pulley going out or altenator. Once again.. you can do a search and probably get some pertanent info. Don't be so quick to think this board has failed you. All of the problems you've mentioned are common place here. The search feature is your friend! pHEnomIC 11-12-2005, 10:12 AM http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi steve9899 11-12-2005, 11:19 AM I was wondering if anyone knows of any good mechanical boards to get some questions answered, thanks. Looks like this is the website you need: http://www.helminc.com a few failed trys at getting some mechanical advise on some problems on this board Looks like user error to me. "Hi I'm a noob and I have several completely unrelated problems that I have done zero diagnosis on and am going to jumble them all into one rambling paragraph in the LT1 engine section even though most of them don't have anything to do with an LT1 engine." isn't going to get a lot of responses, as you have found. pHEnomIC 11-12-2005, 03:25 PM Looks like user error to me. I am gonna agree with this. When I started using forums I used to do that. It seems that you get a lot of response if you space things out Like this. Space between paragraphs and you get good results because easier to read. Then, state your problem, what you think it is, what you have already done possibly list any modifications you have done that could possibly be related. Also, don't put different topics in one post and like he said use the correct section for each topic. Not to be mean or anything, but I guarantee you will get better results if you follow my format. | ||
