question about subs and amp price?
question about subs and amp price?
does anyone here know alot about car audio... one of my friends has 2 solo baric 12s and box, and a kicker 1000watt amp, and all the wiring for sale, for 800 dollars, its 2 years old, is this a good deal??
Re: question about subs and amp price?
Which SoloBarics are they? The L7's are sick, the L5's are good, and I have 2 of the old S10d's which are pretty nasty too. Kicker subs are great. The fairness of that price depends on which series of subs they are. The L7's are hundreds of dollars a piece.

$800 is a pretty good budget for a dual 12" hatch box, 2 subs, and a mono sub amp. You could get a pretty nice form fitting f-body box setup with that cash.
Do some shopping around first before you go spending that level of cash on used gear.
Use froogle to find the value of the stuff he is selling. If it's about half price then it's worth considering.
Otherwise honestly I'd start with new gear and warranties.

Re: question about subs and amp price?
From my experience, subs and amps don't last that long. I replace my subs and amps about every two years. It really depends on how hard the owner pushes it. In any case, $800 is a lot of money to spend on a used sys., especially if it is two year old! By that time I am giving my gear away to friends. Take my advice, don't spend $800 on a gamble.
Re: question about subs and amp price?
What are you doing that you're replacing your subs and amps every two years? I would definitely understand if you were competing, or you had a money tree in your yard, but my opinion is that quality audio equipment should last a long time. If I bought cheap speakers I would expect them to not last that long, but Kickers are a good brand. I expect to be able to continue using my audio equipment until I either break it from abuse or it corrodes into nothing, since I bought decent stuff.
Cam25aro: If your friend who's selling you this stuff is an idiot who likes to turn his stereo up until blood starts squirting out of his ears, then you probably shouldn't buy his stuff cause that is not good for his stereo, not to mention his ears. The brand name (Kicker) is good, just use some common sense and maybe some comparison shopping to see what else you could get for your $800. You could probably get a hell of a lot for $800. Once again, what series of Kicker subs are they? If it's 2 L7 12"s, a 1000 watt Kicker amp, a box and wiring, you may want to jump all over it!

Re: question about subs and amp price?
I agree with the above. If you are replacing systems every two years you are either abusive or get board with it. If you use the stuff correctly it should last for as long as you own the car. I have an Alpine deck that has been in my car from the time I bought it (8 years). It still looks and sounds new. I have quite a few amps that I will never part with. I have had/seen amps from PPI, Rockford, Soundstream, Phoenix Gold, and Zapco all last many many years. It all in how you take care of your stuff.
