Mrs. Cherry says it poses a threat to law inforcement officers.

If I were a policeman and I felt threatened, I would just blow out the windows with my service pistol!

If that stuff is true I guess we probably shouldn't have curtains or shades on our house windows either.

Re: (((NEW))) michigan tint law,noooooooo

I have always found the whole window tinting thing to be stupid... not the tiniting but the laws for it since they are not uniform.. Take my state... on cars the windshield is no tint, the sides are to have a very light tint at most, and if it is a two door the same goes for the rear... on a truck it can have very dark tint on the rear window.. and on a van, every window behind the drivers seat can have limo dark tint (since most come from the factory that way)

Now.. I would be alot less worried about a 2 door car having tint all the way around who can have maybe 3 people in it, than a van that can have 15 people in it.. lets see who can hold more guns.. I think it is rediculas to single out passenger CARS for this crap rather than everything.. if you make a law about something like that it should go for everyone.. not just one type of vehicle

"I'm not taking it off," she said. "I had the windows tinted to keep the sun out of my face and out of my child's face. If it's illegal for people to have the tint, it should be illegal for the shops to put it on."

this lady has *****....

I got tint on my windows too....im not takin it off.plus its only on my 3 back windows....but still....this is a law that should not be passed..what are they goin to do about the tint that comes STOCK on most cars now a days???? Can they answer that one!!! ide like to see them try to make the BIG 3 not tint windows anymore....

I had 35% on my side windows, and got pulled over on the way to my grandma's house on Mound Road & 13 Mile, even though a honda had limo all the way around two lanes over. I was SO freaking pissed. Funny part about the article is that the Troy cop doesn't know his own state's law, he states that 35% tint is legal on the side windows. I should've taken my ticket to him and had him sign it, damn!

my eye doctor says I am photophobic(too sensitive to light)
that's my way around that crap!
I just keep the slip in the truck and they can't ticket me for tint. That was my way around a ticket i got 5 years ago.

I don't think it should be legal to install extra-dark tint. There are lots of show cars that are never driven on the street. Where should those guys go to get their tint?

I do think that every tint shop should have the law (for their state) clearly posted in plain English, and they should make customers who want tinting beyond the legal limits sign a waiver stating that they are aware of what they're doing.

My Z28's windows are just like they were from the factory. There's an extremely light greenish tint -- barely noticeable. Probably more than 99% of light passes through, but when you compare it to looking at open air, it's noticeable.

My GN, on the other hand, has some fairly dark factory tint. I don't know the percentages, but I wouldn't be surprised if I got pulled over for it.

I think that if cops are going to write tickets for this kind of thing, they should have some sort of device that measures the percentage of light that passes through the glass, and they should have to run a test on the spot, like they way they do breathalyzers.

I totally understand that cops can feel threatened when they can't see into the car, but they could always get on the megaphone and instruct the driver to lower their windows or something. No need to shoot them out.

I'm fine with stiffer penalties for illegal tints. What do you need to break the law for? Is your coolness factor more important than the safety of our police officers? Your eyes are too sensitive? Get some dang sunglasses like everyone else.

I always went with 35% all around. On my WRX i got pulled over for the 1st time, and that had 20% on the rear and 35 on the sides. I didnt think they would bother me since you can see through the sides real easy, but they did.

Basically this sucks. But it hasnt been passed yet. Damn you Darko!!!!

Me too, I have a persription to have my windows tinted, But if push comes to shove, they can say if its to brite to drive, then you shouldnt be driving,
I got 2 tickets thrown out, after showing the script to the cops, who still wrote a ticket,

So they can still write a ticket,..... too much times on their hands,

I did a u turn in front of my tat shop, and a State Trooper saw it, he pulls me over and says "I noticed when you did your illeagle u turn, that your windows are too dark.. and if you dont remove the tint, RIGHT NOW, I'll issue you a citation", I informed him that a had a script, he says "let me see that""
after a few moments of him staring at it, he hands it back and says " Next time find a better place to do a u turn !"

Read it more carefully... it clearly says 4 inches of tint on the side windows. Meaning that if you have your sides tinted, they have to be no more than 4" from the top of the window, which looks gay as hell.

Werd, read the article too quickly. It's funny how the people representing our state are more consumed with putting more people in jail, rather than helping correct the fact that Detroit is the POOREST CITY IN THE ENTIRE NATION. They'd rather throw more people in jail, even though they're letting people OUT of jail because they are overcrowded and they can't handle the huge amount of prisoners. They'd rather throw otherwise law abiding citizens into jail for tint, rather than cracking down on the drug dealers, gangs, and the rest of the trash in society. We tint our windows becuase we are car enthusiasts, 'nuff said.

The original law about window tint has NOTHING to do with officer safety!!!!!!! That's just their angle now, because it draws on compassion, which will get it passed.

I think that tint also deters theft from cars.. mostly because the person can not see what is in the car, therefore will most times pass it up for a car that they are certain about what they can get. And yea. the police are lazy.. they are all about catching people.. as long as it s not to difficult for them.. so they pick on us lay abiding people about stupid stuff rather than actually work and catch the people who they should be annoying
