Turbo cam 222/222 versus 226/226 cam (old was 224/236)

I broke a piston in my LT1 383 T-76 yesterday. It is VERY important to purge the air from the Methanol lines before getting into boost.

Anyway, I've been running a 224/236 - 114 for some time now that was left over from the blower combo. I now have the opportunity to change it out to something more turbo-specific.

I've done extensive reading on turbo cams and decided to go single-pattern because it seems as though the freakishly high hp cars are running them. I'm also switching to Crane HR1 lobes since the Comp Extreme High Lift lobes are unstable and hard on the valve train.

I'm having a hard time deciding between 222/222 - 114 (.542/.509) and 226/226 - 114 (.552/.518).

I certainly don't want to lose power over the 224/236 cam, but a PTK LT1 car made 990 rwhp with a puny 218/218 cam. Conversely, Brent made 1180 rwhp with the F cam, which is 226/226.

Any thoughts on this?

Mike

Sorry. . . normal guy on the TurboMustang forum. He's running a 302 with TFS heads, F cam, carburetor, and T-88 at 32 psi through a water/air intercooler. 1177 rwhp.

I was thinking of a comp cam custom grind (regular hydraulic roller lobes)

224/224 .560/.560 114LSA (-4 degrees overlap)

My combo will be very similar to yours:

383ci
AF210's (ported by LE), LT4 fully ported intake.....monoblade
T76 Q trim (.96 A/r)
SLP headers...2.5 cross over pipes...merge into a single 2.5 pipe right before the turbo.......3" dp....slp lm

The cam I just listed is a good compromise between the two you have listed. You could actually change the lift on the exh. side to .533, so it would be:

224/224 .560"/.533" 114lsa

for your setup i would consider merging those (2) 2.5" pipes to a 3 inch pipe for a turbo inlet...a 3" pipe can be made to fit a T4 flange perfectly...that would be optimum...i believe this is how PTK does it as well...

I ran a PT&E .236/.236 @ 50 or .274/.274 @ .015 with 110 lobe centers solid roller in my GN. I believe if you look at the BDS site they also show different cam profiles. If your running race gas most agree 110 lobe centers, if you run stright alky then 114. You will also see that with race gas most companies suggest staying at or under 9:1 compression ratio and with stright alky you can go up to 14:1.

If you would like to talk to someone who builds a number of very fast forced induction cars, from large turbo V8's to blown ones. I would suggest talking to Dan Strezo at DSL Engine Development. The phone number is 219-956-3653.

I hope the information helps
