My girlfriend ordered me a pro5.0 shifter for a 93-02 6 speed. I have a 95 Z28 with a T-56. But when I got the shifter tonite, it doesnt look like it will go in reverse. It looks like it would fit a 5-speed with reverse in the bottom right where 6th would be on a T-56, but it seems like it doesnt go over far enough for reverse on a T-56. From the nuetral posistion it feels like it moves the same distance to the right as it does to the left. Like it wont go far enough to go into reverse. It does say on the box though for a t56 6 speed so ??? I donno. It feels like it MAY move a hair further to the right to go in reverse but im not sure ???

The box says Fits 93-02 6-Speeds, but it just doesnt seem like it goes over enough to go into reverse. On the base of the shifter it says Power Tower.

 

Is it even on the car? Pro 5.0's seem to be extremely stiff in some cases. Maybe you just need to grab it with both hands and push it all the way in to reverse?

 

If it's not on the car there isn't much to go buy other than the box, and it says it is the correct model.
You won't have the leverage needed to go through all the gears without mounting it up.

 

I sat it in a vise and tried it. I was pushing it as far as It will go before it touches the metal plate on eiter side. So I donno ... Ill have to look at it today I guess

 

Do you have it installed upside down? IIRC, the font should be upside down when installed.

 

Install it! Thats the only way you will know. I am willing to bet that it is the exact shifter u need. Just install it and see.

 

I got it to work, lol I didnt read on here yet about putting it in "upside down" so that threw me off for a few minutes but its all in and working ok. I had to cut down the mounting bolts that hold it to the trans. And it JUST BARELY travels enough to go into reverse. Its REALLY REALLY stiff, but if I use all 145lbs of my ***, I can get er into gear ok. It sucks being thin. Anyways, Thanks everyone

 

why did you have to cut the mounting bolts????? something sounds odd about that, mine bolted right in with no mods except to the rubber shift boot...

 

when I got mine I thought the same thing. It didnt look like it would go into reverse, but it did. I dont know why you would have to cut the mounting bolts though. I did cut about 1 inch off the stick though.
