Clutch won't disengage all the way?????????

I was wondering if maybe somene had a similar problem. On my 1994 Camaro Z28, I have a Mcloed Clutch that only has about 15k on it, and mostly highway, and about 2 times at the track. But now it doesn't want to disengage all the way. Its very had to even put it into gear when the car is on, but when its off, I can go through the gears fine!.......If I have the car off and put it into first and then start it, the car keeps rolling forward even though I have the clutch pushed in. Anyone have any ideas?\

edit: Sorry I posted this in the wrong place, can someone move it to Drivetrain! Thanks

Are you low on clutch fluid? You probably have a bad master or slave cylinder.

No, all that was replaced. What else could cause it? Could it have been a spring on the clutch/pressure plate that broke????

If it just happened, then I would think there is something wrong with the slave or master cyl.

Then why would there be noise sometimes coming from the tranny, but not very often, but it wasn't there before.

And if it is the slave, or master cyl. How would I check to make sure. I had them replaced at the shop. But I don't have money to do that now, so I will have to change it out myself. Anyone have a link or something to know how to change them out or test them to make sure they are not out???

What kind of noise?

I would still put my money on the master or slave. I have never changed one and im not totally sure how you would check their operation, but i would check the fluid level and check for leaks.

If its in the hydraulics, the pedel will feel really light, and just drop to the floor. If its the springs that came loose from the clutch, the pedel will feel normal, the clutch just wont release. The loose springs also explain the noise your hearing from the tranny area. I had the same exact symptoms.

I finally ordered a new clutch and will have my car going by the end of the week, after its been in the garage for a couple months :)

ok, I unhooked the slave cylinder from the tranny, but I don't know how to disconnect it. It looks like the line and the slave cylinder are stuck together as one piece. How do I just change out the slave cylinder? Anyone know any links with pics? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

My money is on the clutch disc. The metal center of the disc prolly broke around the springs, and the spring is dragging. I've had this happen twice, once on a McLeod disc with 5k on it.

So does anyone know of any links dealing with this topic???

Come on, I know there has to be somebody on this site that has done this before. Is the slave cylinder one whole piece with the master or can you detach it and replace the slave cylinder? If so, where??????? how?????

Have you looked at the last couple posts, one of which is by myself. I doubt you have bad hydraulics. If the pedel felt fine, its the clutch disc. Dont waist your time messing with the slave cylinder.

If you had bad hydraulics, the pedel would go to the floor with very little resistance. If it feels normal, its in the clutch disc. Pull the tranny and see for yourself :p

Well now that the slave if off I am still asking the question if it is one whole piece with the master or can you seperate it. Its the stock Slave, so it will not hurt to replace it since my car is a 94 model. I have read the other posts about the Clutch, I don't need advice on that anymore, I need it on the Slave Cylinder. Thanks

You can separate the slave cylinder from the master. I believe there's a roll pin you have to push out. Be sure to post up on how badly the disc is broken once you do get around to pulling the tranny.

Well just got done fixing it. It was the Slave Cylinder!.........I thought you said for SURE it was the transmission. There was a little plastic part that goes on the end of the slave cylinder that was making the noise. I'm glad I didn't drop the transmission!!!!! That would of been way more work. I appreciate all the great advice everyone!

If it was the slave cylinder, the pedel feel would have gave it away right away. Thats why I talked about pedel feel in both of my posts.

Well the pedel did feel fine. But it just wasn't disengaging all the way. I don't know. I am just glad its fixed.

The plastic cap is supposed to be on the end of the slave. And the side straps will be broke. Just in case you didn't know.

It comes new with it strapped down, you put it on the car like that and when you push the pedal a few times it snaps the straps on the side, the cap helps absorb vibrations and junk.

Heres why mine wasn't releasing.

Based on this, what your claiming fixed it doesn't make sense. I don't believe you.

hahaha........you don't believe me.........thats funny. What does the slave cylinder do? It pushins in the clutch fork to disengage the clutch. Now while the motor is on try putting it into gear without pushing in the clutch. Now turn the car off, and try it. You can go thru the gears while the engine if off without pushing in the clutch. The slave cylinder was completely broken. I could shake it and hear stuff rattling. I don't care if you don't believe me. The slave cylinder was the problem and now its fixed, thats all that matters to me.

Glad to hear that you got it fixed. Its always best to start with the easy stuff first and rule that out.
