thinking of superchargeing t a

I have a 95 m6 trans am looking to see what is recommended to upgrade before installing a supercharger right now i have borla cat back, random tech high flow cat. 58 mm throttle body not installed. hypertech air foil, I was looking at heads afr or lt4 , cam ,and intake port the lt1 or get lt4 along with headers. will the bottom end need to be upgraded also?

I would build a strong short blcok before I worried about any of the stuff you listed. Headers and a strong shortblock would be the best things for you to upgrade, the stock heads and intake will limit you some but with a short block made to handle boost you can make 500 RWHP with stock keads and intake.

Cool Re: thinking of superchargeing t a

What are ur power goals? If you just want to add a blower and get 380+rwhp w/ stock H/C then i think really all you need to do is get a P1SC @6-7psi & upgrade the fuel system, just be easy on the 10-bolt w/ that 6sp but if ur looking for 500-600rwhp or more then as Breakmyfootoff said, get the built bottom end, heads, blower cam, and upgrade fuel system and go w/ a D-1 or SorT-trim vortech & id think bout adding a 12-bolt at that power level. good luck w/ which ever way you go

i was just looking to get somemore power 350 to 400rwh .If i do go with a basic supercharger would it hurt to upgrade the heads and cam and intake or would that be more of a waste of time.

For your goals (350-400rwhp) I think heads/cam package would be all you would need, without a need for FI.

werd.

Of course if thats all you want/need as far as power goals you could slap a blower on a completely stock engine with an FMU and a MSD 6BTM and be done with it.

Re: thinking of superchargeing t a

cant believe nobody mentioned that if you decide to get a blower.....do not get LT4 heads. thats gonna up your CR more than it already is. not good for FI. AFR makes some LT1 heads for nitrous and FI. they have larger combustion chambers that will give you a little less CR.

just my $.02

im still running a stock bottom end and its still fine. but im not running much boost and i rarely drive the car.

good luck.

Re: thinking of superchargeing t a

ok so i can do new heads and cam but not lt4?get the lt1 afrs mentioned and a dif cam. this will do ok how about the intake manifold ? port and polish the lt1 with 58mm tb. need a little lower compression for superchargergot it. honestly i dont really want to just supercharge it stock. If i van get my power goals with haeds and cam thats great but i know i will want more later down the line. so can i build it to get the power i want and be ready if i want to supergarge it later?

Re: thinking of superchargeing t a

ive basically got the LT4 kit minus the heads and intake. the LT4 manifold is matched to the heads. so i dont think theres any point in getting the LT4 intake without the heads.

like everyone said. if you want a grip of power later, you may as well spend the extra cash, do it right, and get a custom cam and head package (and bottom end) for your supercharged needs.

if not, what im planning on doing since i know my stock motor wont last forever is this. build a stock bottom end...probably a 355 with forged pistons so it will be fairly tough. then to lower the compression a little im gonna get some highflow heads with larger combustion chambers.

im not gonna go with low compression pistons because im not planning on ever getting real crazy with the boost. maybe 12psi max. probably less though. and the other reason is because if i ever want to remove the blower, all I'll have to do is swap heads to get my compression back. if i went with the dished pistons I'd be stuck with weak low compression motor. then id have to dig into the motor again.....

so my set up will probably be something like.....stock bottom end with the exeption of the forged flat top pistons......hot cam and 1.6 rocker arms......AFR heads (or something similar)......Aftercooled blower with 6-12psi.......and im thinking about methanol/water injection.

this is my idea if i decide to keep the blower.

are you still looking for one?

my advise is to browse the forced induction forum and read as much as you can and learn a lot about FI. it gets complicated. i try and keep it simple and just have a little fun without making it my life....

good luck.

That paragraph is some of the best advice I've seen offered on this site, It's very easy to become obsessed with squeezing every last drop of horsepower out of a combination only to end up with a car that is difficult to live with because it's always broken.
