How can you diagnose an exhaust leak?

Believe i have a pass side exhaust manifold leak. I put my ear up as close as i could, but since GM decided to put my engine under the dashboard, i cant get real close. Is there any way to be sure its the manifold and not some other noise? Its not a rocker, and its way too loud to be injecters.

Are there any black (carbon deposites) spots around the header flange? Thats a good indicator.

If you put it on a lift you can listen for and even see them. Most muffler shops will look at it for free.

Also, put your hand around the manifold when you first start the car in the morning and feel for leaks. You'll have a few seconds to do this before it gets blazing hot. ;)
