Wheel Corrosion on new Camaro alloys
My 2000 Z28 was purchased from new in the UK by me, through the GM approved dealer network. Afte 2 years at a service interval I was shown corrosion on all 4 alloys and they were changed under warranty.
18 months later the same thing happened again and once again they were all changed under warranty. I did not want the same alloys for obvious reasons, but GM insisted they had to be like for like.
Now (another 18 months) and they have all corroded again. I can peel flakes of chrome off the surfaces.
This time, I have been told they can not be replaced under warranty, as Cadillac-Corvette Europe say they are not aware of any problems occurring with alloy wheels.
I have spoken to my dealer and other appointed dealers and they are aware of significant numbers of other people who have the same problem.
Apart from cleaning the wheels 3 times a week up on a ramp, can anyone else tell me how to stop this corrosion. I hand washed the car regularly but did not use any specialist wheel cleaners.
Also, I will now sue GM and with the money that I will win, I shall find a suitable alloy to replace them - not the OEM fitment. Any one got any idea's using the same size rim since my tyres are almost new.

Re: Wheel Corrosion on new Camaro alloys
Appears you are talking about the RPO N98 chrome 16" wheels. When the 2000 Z28 was first announced, the N98 wheels were supposed to be a "highly polished" finish. GM had production problems with the "polished" finish, and switched from "polished" to "chrome" on the N98 wheels for most of the model year. There were some polished N98 wheels installed on production cars, and those were believed to have been installed only on GM "fleet sales" cars.
Maybe you could find a set of the polished N98's somewhere.
Or, since you've got 5 full years out of your original wheels and the free replacements, why not spend you money on having your current wheels stripped and rechromed by a quality local shop. It would make a lot more sense than getting hyper/obsessive and launching a law suit that could take years and cost you a lot of time and money. Just MHO.

Yeah a new set of wheels or polishing yours would probably be cheaper that a lawyer to go up against GM. Remember an cheap laywer against GM's high dollar lawyers won't get any where.
Most money=Best Defense. Look at O.J. and M.J.

Hi,
Yes it is the 5 Spoke wheels but as yet I do not know which version or description it is.
Don't forget that in England we pay about 40% more for the car in the first place. One of the justifications for this by UK dealers is that we are paying for a much stronger warranty package than other countries and continents.
In England we have a really useful system for settling claims under £5,000.
It will cost me about £120 and I will have a decision within about 6 weeks. I will not have to pay costs to them, even if I lost.
When something is sold in the UK, it has to be generally fit for purpose. I do not think GM will convince any judge in the land that car wheels are designed to be changed once every 18 months.
Does anyone know if the 35th wheels with the black releif avoids the chrome finish?
Also does anyone know of a European site similar to this one, it is really good but I guess I will find more people with my problem in this region, probably due to the climate.
