PCM question

I got my PCM back from shop after reprograming for mods,I was told
that after disconnecting the battery positive to reboot the computer,
then start and let idle for ten minutes. This is after new cam and headers
with catback. After doing this car will surg at idle and stall sometimes.
Do I need to have it reprogrammed? It does run great with throttle.
It is a GM off road milder cam.

I think they're just talking about right after the reset because the old PCM learned idle position was lost and has to be "relearned." You shouldn't have any idle problems after starting the car a few times and putting some miles on it - if you do give your tuner a call.

Re: PCM question

You can also reset the PCM by:

Turn key on, don't start car
Pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment
Wait 5-10 min
Turn ignition off
Replace fuses

Resetting the PCM won't lose your tune - There's also an "idle relearn" procedure you can try if you still have problems.

Re: PCM question

It will take a couple of minutes for the car to learn the new starting proceeder. Mine always does after I reset the computer.

It seems to be getting better very slowly,Do you know what the idle
relearn procedure is?
Thanks

Re: PCM question

I looked it up - not as involved as I had remembered (for the 00-02 M6 cars). Yours should be OK by now though, except for the AC controls it's pretty much the same thing your tuner said to do.

02 M6 Idle Relearn:
Turn car off
Restore the PCM battery feed
Turn off all AC controls
Trans in neutral/block wheels
Start engine
Allow coolant temp to reach 176*
Idle engine for 5 min
Turn car off for 15 secs
