Would Dealership ever Deny a warranty claim because of an aftermarket lid?
Would Dealership ever Deny a warranty claim because of an aftermarket lid?
I'm looking into getting this clear lid -

The only worries I have is if I would be denied a warranty claim because of it. I really dont want to have to put the stock one back, etc etc... Because from the looks of it, it isnt that fun.
Opinions, or horror stories with warranty claims, etc?

It takes about 2 minutes to switch back to the oem lid, once you get the knack of moving the IAT sensor back and forth.
I know that the SLP lid is an option on the 2002 cars, so i would imagine that it would be ok... it really depends on the dealer. I personally take mine off for dealer trips just to be safe.

I too wanted the clear lid.. after researching I found that people who owned it said that it was too brittle and will develope cracks on it..
others have said that they will get yellow but I dont see that happening nor have I met anyone whose had theirs turn yellow.. Odds are it will crack before it ever gets yellow...

When I installed my lid it came with a filter for the secondary air heater I believe. The filter had a skin in it that choked the flow of air to the heater pump. This caused the car to throw codes. Two 02 sensors later and five hours labor of diagnostic work by the techs...I was told to remove the lid and small filter and reinstall the stock lid...almost had to pay for the bill...found the skin in the filter and bought another grommet and IAT sensor and place the stocker back on when visiting the dealer. It takes 5 minutes to switch.
I suppose it would depend on the dealership on whether or not they would try to void your warranty for something as simple as an aftermarket lid, but it would definitely be an a$$hole move of them to try.
I took my '01 Z28 in for warranty repairs numerous times, and never bothered to switch the Whisper lid I had back to the stock one. No one at the dealership ever mentioned it or gave me any hassles.

They will use any excuse they can to deny your claims and or make money off of you. I hate dealers, I have never had a good experience yet with Ford or GM.
The last time I took my LT1 camaro in they told me they were going to enter in their records that my car was "modified". I'm like do what ever you want cuz I am NEVER bringing my car back anyway! The two times I had to take my car in I got it bacl dirty, and with lots of miles on it. I fully understand that they need to drive the car to check it but 50 miles!! and then to find rubber under my wheel wells and my clutch felt different.
I have not had my '02 SS back to the dealer since I bought it. It is now modified enough that it would be more trouble than it's worth to deal with it. I will fix anything that goes wrong myself!

It is slightly possible that they might hassle you about that, depending on the type of damage. None of the dealers I've used would squabble about that.
But considering that the 2001-2 SS can be bought from SLP with the same style of aftermarket lid (similar to the clear one) on it, they'd be rather silly to argue it.
