Driveshaft Problem

I have a 98 Camaro v6 m5 , and my driveshaft is gone and I was wondering if I can use the driveshaft from an 98 Camaro v6 auto transmission. Cause the dealer is telling me that the m5 is a 2 pice driveshaft and the auto is one pice driveshaft and if I put the auto driveshaft to manual it will give me vibrations. Is that true, cause I can't find a used 2 pice driveshaft to my 98 Camaro m5 and the dealer is asking $1500 CAN for a new 2 pice driveshaft.

Re: Driveshaft Problem

Tell the dealer to **** off.

You can use ANY driveshaft off ANY 4th gen F-Body...whether it is a V6, V8, auto or manual...doesn't matter.

Ideally, you would want a one piece aluminum. The risk of more vibrations is real, but I've yet to hear anyone complain about it.

Look on eBay, you can find them for $150 for a aluminum one-piece (used).

Re: Driveshaft Problem

You should also beable to use the driveshaft out of the 3rd gens automatics.
I replaced my 2 piece shaft out of my 94 3.4 auto with a driveshaft out of an auto 85 iroc.

Re: Driveshaft Problem

Hahaha, 1500. F that. Its a simple job, 6 bolts to take off the old one, and 4 to reattach the new one. Get at least a steel one piece, but an aluminum one piece would be better. Oh, and all v6's had the two piece, not just manuals.

Re: Driveshaft Problem

Holy dear god. Thats insane.

If you want to pay all the money to ship it to Cananda, you can have my stock 2 piece for nothing. Although it would be a week or two till I could get to where it is right now.

I think it would be far easier to get one local though.

Re: Driveshaft Problem

Thx for all the info guys...
I finally found one in a scrap yard, one piece driveshaft for cheep.
So thx for the info cause the dealer was telling me I would get vibrations if I put a one piece instead of two piece, but I got one piece installed and it works fine. But now I think my rear end is ****ed up, cause there is some play from side to side. Does this mean it's ****ed or is there something worn out that I can change and fix that problem.

Re: Driveshaft Problem

I just replaced my 2-piece piece O crap on my '97 with a one piece steel. Thank goodness no increase in vibrations. I was able to get the driveshaft from a fellow registered user here on this site.

a walker

He was very helpful and got the drive shaft shipped to me ASAP via UPS

He mentioned that he may have other parts available. Check his profile out.

If it's broken don't fix it. There's going to be some play. If it don't make noise, Don't worry about it..
