Not that I know of......esp. when we've been putting them in TrailBlazer EXTs with the V8 for the past year.

Re: Displacement on Demand

Patents are superceeded by something known as "Prior Art".

If a given technology already exists, then a patent by someone else covering the same technology after the fact is void. This is one application of "Prior Art".

Also, if a given technology exists in a form such that a subject matter expert would know that the application of the technology in a different form is an obvious step, then the patent is basically void. This is also an application of "Prior Art", and while more subtle, is very viable in legal terms.

Basically, you can't get protection for anything either already being produced (an example of a given idea being reduced to practice) or by applying a concept to something that is so obvious that any subject matter expert would know that it was possible and had reduced it to a design OR practice.

Re: Displacement on Demand

When is this going to make it out into other cars Red?

GM's been hyping the system for 3 years now and its in 1 or 2 models? Chrysler didn't really talk about theirs at all, it just showed up...

Honda has it too on some of their V6 models. I don't remember hearing anything from them either.

It'll be on the 2006 Impala SS and Monte SS with the LS4..........and I can't talk about the 'new vehicles' that it will be on......but let's just say it's gonna be on a lot of large vehicles................

Re: Displacement on Demand

OK, new thread!

Who thought the Camaro was a 'large vehicle'?

I'm not serious here folks, I'm still hung up on 11 pages devoted to a FWD V8 Impala....so don't flame me.....

I'll assume DOD will be rolled out on all GMT-900 vehicles.

Red, can you tell us how much savings DOD has on the V8 TrailBlazer vs what it would be without DOD?

Also on what it would be with and without on (non-SUV's) the new Impala SS and Monte Carlo SS?

I think this is fantastic technology. All the fun, and better mileage! About the ONLY downside anyone can come up with is potentially the sound at idle... has anyone had any issues with that at all? I think this would come into play more on a car liek a potential V8 ponycar more than an SUV, but you get the idea....

Re: Displacement on Demand

Im sure that the 900's will have it, (more like I hope).
I think that a 900 with improved aerodynamics, 6spd auto with double over drive, mild hybrid technology, an DoD, could get a very awesome mpg number, enough to shake the crap out of thoes Prius-loving people.
Even DoD with 6spd autos should get GM a much better mpg rating.

Re: Displacement on Demand

Can someone clear up once and for all if cylinder de-activiation occurs at idle?

I didn't think it does.

That would solve the sound issue (if it existed), but you'd think that it would lose some of the MPG benefits....
