Actually, I think I prefer the '04's cleaner look.

Does anyone else not like the GTO's '05 hoodscoops?Z284ever 06-05-2005, 08:44 PM Besides me, that is. Actually, I think I prefer the '04's cleaner look. Knowklew 06-05-2005, 08:47 PM I am so glad to know someone else is in the same boat as me. I hate the new scoops! DrewSG 06-05-2005, 08:54 PM They do look a bit cheesy, there are better aftermarket hoods out there. AronZ28 06-05-2005, 08:56 PM They aren't functional are they? I think they look cheezy and tacked on, but I'd forgive that if they were functional. 0toinsanein5.4sec 06-05-2005, 09:14 PM i like em unvc92camarors 06-05-2005, 09:21 PM i like em i'm with him Kris93/95Z28 06-05-2005, 10:35 PM They aren't functional are they? I think they look cheezy and tacked on, but I'd forgive that if they were functional. Nope they aren't functional in any respect. The backs are sealed with Plastic. This totally is a looks thing, done to make the car more sporty looking. Truthfully, I like them, but that doesn't mean I like one without them any less... formula79 06-06-2005, 12:10 AM I like the Woodward GTO ones more:) Meccadeth 06-06-2005, 12:17 AM I like the Woodward GTO ones more:) I think we all do  90 Z28SS 06-06-2005, 01:43 AM No GTO looks better than one with a flat hood , no rear spoiler , 18" wheels and the 05 bumper . Once a GTO is cleaned up like , in the right color ...its a flat out gorgeous car . Z284ever 06-06-2005, 01:46 AM No GTO looks better than one with a flat hood , no rear spoiler , 18" wheels and the 05 bumper . Once a GTO is cleaned up like , in the right color ...its a flat out gorgeous car . I agree completely. DAyers 06-06-2005, 01:52 AM i like em They add character to the front end of the car. :) Darth Xed 06-06-2005, 08:00 AM If I were to trade in my 04 for an 05, I'd probably get the scoops. I like the look without, but I like the scoops too..... FWIW, I have yet to see an 05 GTO with the scoop delete...... Brandon_Lutz 06-06-2005, 08:13 AM I like the cleaner looks of without them. Its why the GTO appeals to me so much. Its sedate looking but packs a mean punch. :D falchulk 06-06-2005, 08:55 AM To me they look like a tacked on pair of lund scoops. I think it would have looked much better with a centered single scoop like the Charger SRT 8 has. stars1010 06-06-2005, 09:17 AM I agree completely. as do i robvas 06-06-2005, 10:02 AM To me they look like a tacked on pair of lund scoops. I think it would have looked much better with a centered single scoop like the Charger RT has. What he said. Z28Marcus 06-06-2005, 10:21 AM So here's an honest question - not loaded, but simply WHY are they not functional? The RAM air system on the WS6 equipped TAs does provide a performance benefit once you get moving at decent speeds (i.e. speeds you'd see at the dragstrip or on the straightways on a road course). Engineering cost (i.e. to mate the RAM air to a revised air box)? Lack of space underhood? Perceived or real lack of benefit on a car that already makes 400 HP? falchulk 06-06-2005, 10:29 AM What he said. Heh heh, except that I meant srt8, not rt routesixtysixer 06-06-2005, 10:32 AM From everything I've read, what they really need is some way to vent hot air; that is, not necessarily air "injection," but air "extraction." And just for the record, I don't dislike the scoops, but I prefer the smooth hood. jwade95Z 06-06-2005, 11:16 AM No GTO looks better than one with a flat hood , no rear spoiler , 18" wheels and the 05 bumper . Once a GTO is cleaned up like , in the right color ...its a flat out gorgeous car . Agree 100%. Maybe a small lip spoiler, but that's it. Make mine a Silver M6 with the red seats. Z28Wilson 06-06-2005, 12:58 PM You typical enthusiasts!!! ;) 2004: That isn't a real GTO!!! Every GTO from 1964 up had hood scoops! Where's the %$&*@ scoops!?!?!? 2005: Damn those scoops are NASTY!!! Would someone PLEASE bring back the cleaner looks of the 2004??? AWFUL!!! :death:  jg95z28 06-06-2005, 12:58 PM Add me to the "don't like" list. :D Darth Xed 06-06-2005, 01:03 PM You typical enthusiasts!!! ;) 2004: Quote: That isn't a real GTO!!! AWFUL!!! So very, very true.... :D Z28x 06-06-2005, 01:10 PM I don't care either way. I really like the new rear bumper a lot better. If I had a GTO I'd definatly get the recessed grills and some 18" rims. poSSum 06-06-2005, 01:20 PM I just wish they'd sell them up here so I could have an opinion. My leaning is towards a clean (no scoops) look. guionM 06-06-2005, 03:57 PM So here's an honest question - not loaded, but simply WHY are they not functional? The RAM air system on the WS6 equipped TAs does provide a performance benefit once you get moving at decent speeds (i.e. speeds you'd see at the dragstrip or on the straightways on a road course). Engineering cost (i.e. to mate the RAM air to a revised air box)? Lack of space underhood? Perceived or real lack of benefit on a car that already makes 400 HP? WS6 ram air was initially was an aftermarket creation that became part of Firebird's lineup. GM never created this stuff themselves because it's not cost effective for them (guess they go by a different standard than Ford did with the Mach 1). If SLP (or another company) did a ram air package for the GTO that GM decided didn't void the warranty and held up as far as GM's durability standards, there's nothing stopping them offering it as a package. :) BTW: left up to me, I'd order w/o the scoops, but I wouldn't not buy one if there was a good deal on one with scoops. :) Chuck! 06-06-2005, 04:07 PM I don't care either way. I really like the new rear bumper a lot better. If I had a GTO I'd definatly get the recessed grills and some 18" rims. Ditto. I'd get the hood and sport app package, but see if I could get the stock bumper instead of the sport app bumper. HAZ-Matt 06-06-2005, 06:32 PM I never wanted the hood scoops. Gold_Rush 06-06-2005, 06:35 PM I hate the fact that it looks tacked on and cheap. For that reason, i prefer the cleaner 04 hood. Good thing the scoops are optional. From the looks of it, it was an afterthought. Had they done a better job of integrating it onto the hood, it would look much nicer and i'd probably prefer it. notgetleft 06-06-2005, 07:15 PM So here's an honest question - not loaded, but simply WHY are they not functional? The RAM air system on the WS6 equipped TAs does provide a performance benefit once you get moving at decent speeds (i.e. speeds you'd see at the dragstrip or on the straightways on a road course). Engineering cost (i.e. to mate the RAM air to a revised air box)? Lack of space underhood? Perceived or real lack of benefit on a car that already makes 400 HP? In real life, SS camaros are no faster than an equivalently optioned Z28. To make a GTO hood functional would require an equally useless underhood duct routing of air from the scoops. Not to mention that low over the top of the hood is not a high pressure zone due to the boundary layer anyway. So i'd say it falls into real lack of benefit. I think the 4th gen cars proved there will never be a lack of perceived benefit to anything with hood scoops given that years after they haven't been made some people still think SS's and WS6's are faster than base cars. JEDCamino 06-06-2005, 07:45 PM No GTO looks better than one with a flat hood , no rear spoiler , 18" wheels and the 05 bumper . Once a GTO is cleaned up like , in the right color ...its a flat out gorgeous car . I couldn't agree more. :thumb: I certainly don't hate the scoops, but I definitely like it better without them. One thing I liked about the GTO when it first came out was that it was very clean and simple, which seems to be one reason so many people hate it. notgetleft 06-06-2005, 08:13 PM Few things warm my heart as much as hearing LS1 'bird, TA and especially WS6 owners rag on the GTO as bland. After all, i'd drive a scion box before i tooled a car with 10-16 forward facing scoops depending on option level. Different strokes for different folks. Derek M 06-06-2005, 08:15 PM A reliable person on another enthusiast board posted that very few cars for the '05 MY were ordered with the hood scoop delete option. Thus it appears for '06 the hood scoop delete option is gone. Official Message from GM on '06's: 2006 GTO consensus starts in June - GTO sales are up over 70% through May while days supply has remained low. Please make sure that you have ordered your 2006 GTO's. For the 2006 model year, very little will change for GTO. Still only two options available (6 speed and 18" wheels) and two new colors. Manual transmissions are running 60% while 18" wheels are running about 30%. Also keep in mind that the ordering, production and transit time for GTO averages about 4 - 6 months. June consensus production will arrive at dealership in November depending on your location, west coast sooner than east coast. AnthonyHSV 06-06-2005, 09:10 PM Agree 100%. Maybe a small lip spoiler, but that's it. Make mine a Silver M6 with the red seats. It already has a small lip spoiler, built into the metal work of the boot. Its just not that obvious with that ugly rear spoiler attached to it. JoeliusZ28 06-06-2005, 09:46 PM i wouldnt order one without scoops. If you want a clean look, shave something that doesnt give it a musclular look instead, like door molding for example. I like (sarcasm) how everyone decides they hate the scoops after saying no hood scoops was one of the biggest shortfalls of the 04. JEDCamino 06-06-2005, 10:15 PM Some of us actually thought the '04 GTO looked fine the way it was, without scoops. I do, however, like the new rear bumper better. :thumb: routesixtysixer 06-07-2005, 10:10 AM i wouldnt order one without scoops. If you want a clean look, shave something that doesnt give it a musclular look instead, like door molding for example. I like (sarcasm) how everyone decides they hate the scoops after saying no hood scoops was one of the biggest shortfalls of the 04. What door molding? Hmm, I guess mine was "shaved" prior to purchase, cause it never had any... notgetleft 06-07-2005, 05:42 PM I never said i wanted hood scoops on an 04. I bought mine in october when dealers were starting to put the 05 hoods on 04s to try to move them. First car i looked at had scoops on it, and after seeing it and thinking about it a bit i ruled it out and bought a regular one instead. It's not that i totally dislike the scoops, i just think non-functional scoops are lame, and after seeing noth, i prefer the smooth look. Ken S 06-07-2005, 05:57 PM ditto.. I always perfered the clean looks of the GTO without the scoops. I'm hoping the next gen would have some subtle muscular lines to it.. like sublte fender flares, slight bowed up in the middle look like what the 4th gen F's had.. a bit more of a low slung look overall (less between the top of the car, and the top of the wheel well, and less reliance on ground effects to make the car seem low to the ground) Think with those subtle changes, it'll look alot more muscular, without resorting to hood scoops and badges. | ||
