The "Lid" that everyone refers to is literally the "lid" that is on the aircleaner box. When you open up the hood, it is a black box right there in the middle on top of the rad (with the factory spec sheet on it I think??)
The reason for changing the factory lid is that, if you pop up the two metal clips and lift it up you'll see, it has many "ribs" which (apparently
) slow the air down that's coming into the motor, and also because of the shape of the outlet of the lid, just doesn't allow as much air into the motor. Aftermarket lids are completely smooth on the inside, and are formed directly into the 4" tube that goes into the MAFS (mass air-flow sensor) --- well, my LS1 Motorsports "Direct-Flo" lid is like that anyway.
There are "claims" of 10+ RWHP and upwards of ~25 RWTQ - whether I believe it or not is one thing, but I did notice a little better pull up top (definitely sounds throatier) and about a tenth of a second quicker at the track (although that could have been due to other conditions
).
