If i remember correctly I just got some pliers, squeezed the clip and seperated it from the filter.

Pinch in the tabs and gently pull.

I turn my eyes down the rear and see a screw holding the gas line that has the tabs, which didn't allow me to push the line back.

So before you push the tabs and pull.....first remove the screw thats holding the lines up against the body of the car. Do as follows. Remove gas cap to relive air from gas tank. Remove screw thats connected to the tabs line. Push the tabs, "gas will squirt out, so wear eye protection", then grab a pair of wrenchs, take off the fuel filter. I just slide the filter off from the filter holder after the filter holder was not coming off. Hope this helps, installation is the reverse.

Re: Fuel filter replacment ???

Sears has a set of tools for these lines for 9.99$ that I picked up this weekend. Was gonna do my filter while I had the car in the air doing wheel bearings/seals and pinion yoke/seal but couldn't find the filter I bought a while ago. So I haven't tried them and can't say how well they work but I'll let you know since I have to replace my axles soon and will do the filter then.

Great guide, shoebox!

Re: Fuel filter replacment ???

ok done deal did the metal flange nut side first. moves the line away, Very gentaley. and then i held the two plactic clips and wiggled the fitelter foward .and thats it was pretty simple . had less than a qaurter of a tank and all i did was open my gas cap . just dripped a litle the filter held alot of gas .

i notice now the gas pedal when i take of now is alittle stiffer now and seems quicker . i think that was the oringal filter on the car was a a/c delco.

Re: Fuel filter replacment ???

you guys should read shoebox's site and make sure to release pressure inside the lines by the schrader valve
it will make it so it doesn't spray all over when you take the filter off

Re: Fuel filter replacment ???

Yeah, that's for sure. The first time I changed the fuel filter, I couldn't find the dang shrader valve to release the pressure. Got fuel in my eyes. Nothing has ever stung my eyes so bad, or the skin around my eyes. Not even after wiping my eyes after touching hot peppers.(another intelligent act by me ) Wear eye protection. Don't be stupid like I was. I learned from that one.

Re: Fuel filter replacment ???

I did the change before i had a jack, i depressurized the system but it still dripped on my arms and chest
neeedless to say, i didnt have a shirt on and gas burns skin like no other. I was trapped under my car too i had to shimmy for 45 seconds to get out.

Re: Fuel filter replacment ???

My friends dad went to go change the fuel filter and I was trying to find the shrader vlave, he was like ''oh *****, a little gas never hurt anyone"
Gas spewed all in his ear and we had to take him to the hospital with him screaming the whole way
I looked very painful
