only if you have or had a blower on a stock bottom end. how long did you last?how much boost?

9psi, Hypertech blower tune and about 1600 hard miles and cracked the ring lands on six pistons.

6 months. Procharger P600b, 8#'s of boost, intercooled. One cold night, the car was the fastest it had been up to that point and BAM, it blew. cold air = more boost.

Vortech 6#, 16K miles; 5 broken ring lands.

if you guys had to do it all over again, would you do the blower first, or build the motor

When you have boost, it only makes you want more. So I guess if I didn't have the P600B to give me a taste, my bottom end would still be stock. But there again, if you build a engine to handle boost it will be more efficent and you will see less boost on the guage. Then it's time for a bigger head unit to get the numbers on the guage which then means bigger fuel system, exhaust, trans and rear end ect..........

Are you thinking about bolting a kit on?

If I knew then what I know now, I would've built the motor, trans, rear, and suspension and then put the blower on. Would've saved me a ton of broken parts and a whole lot of money. The problem is, you never know what you're going to break until it does, so, only way to address that is to replace everything :D

cant decide if i want to build the motor now, built on a blower later, or do the blower now and build later. pretty much what i was thinkin was build a solid 355 LC motor and throw the stock heads, mild blower cam back in, then do the blower. i only want to make 450 or so to the rear tires, but want the bottom end to be able to handle more down the road when i want to get into better heads/bigger cam/more boost

Mine hasn't blown yet(I just got it tuned April 1) so I can't help you there. But, looking at your short term goals, you don't need a cam for 450 at the wheels. That is money you won't have to spend to get there. Plus you said you would put another cam in there later.

Concentrate on the short block for now and you will be set for later.

I have a ATI P600b a 7lbs intercooled kit. On the stock motor it lasted about 90,000 miles. The FMU when bad then I cracked #1 & #7 ringlands.

You really need better pistons and rings with a charger. The stock compression ratio is way too high. The rings aren't gapped for a blower either.
The engine parts, fuel system, and ignition should be upgraded before installation of a supercharger. That is my opinion. GM never intended it to be for forced induction.
If you keep the boost to 6-7 pounds and take some timing out, it will last longer. But, it will probably break eventually.

put a s-trim on with 8 pounds of boost. Used a timing controller but blew a head gasket and hydroed the motor after 10,000 miles.

Forgot to mention that I have had the blower on since last July so I have put at least 12-14k miles on it since then.

I installed a P600B 7# at 56,000 miles and after about 14K I upped the boost to 8# and it lasted another 2k so all in all it made it 16K, ~75 trips down the track, 25 or so dyno pulls before it spun the second, thrid and fourth main bearings on the crank.

On 8#'s it made 405 RWHP / 418 RWTQ and went a best of 11.81 @ 116.50.

i've got about 15k on my s-trim right now. 5-7psi, put down close to 400/400 on a stock long block, no bolt ons, and a very thorough tune. but i do agree, the rings are the week point of the stock setup.

Steve,

If you dont get greedy and stick with 6psi + dyno tune (conservative A/F & timing), you should be able to get a good amount of use out of it. Its all in the tune.

It's only a matter of time before it grenades, the tune will help but I've seen em grenade pretty quick even with a good tune

seems like you guys are getting decent millage out of them, if i do it, im gonna be building a 355 for when it goes. i just want to make sure i could run it for a while so i have time to finish the motor. i was gonna do a forged 355 and just put on stock heads and cam. only really looking for 450-500 to the wheels with the new motor, nothing crazy.

Hey Brian, how do you like your 224/236 blower cam? I getting that same one, but only in a 355 cid. :p

LS1's typically, 9psi, 650 rwhp, running 9's....breaking point for stock bottom ends.

Not sure about LT1's, tho....If you ever take the motor out, look into some upgrades....mabie a bore job...the LT1's make nice torque...

It's very streetable and pulls hard...but unfortunately I keep having tranny problems and misc gremlins that have prevented us from seeing it's full potential yet. It sounds good and feels great so far though.

Build the Engine......hands down. If you have 3-6k to drop on the blower you can drop it on the engine instead. Probably making more power then your stock engine with the blower would have made. My vote is for the engine.....

Im in a similar situation, working on a 383 forged setup and have a stock bottom lt1 in the car now with a blower cam, but i fear installing the blower because its going to be at least a year b4 i finish the stroker. Thinking I should just leave well enough alone and wait til the stroker is done instead of bolting the blower on the stock'r although thats what was originally intended while i build the stroker. I drive my ride hard, and i dont think it will handle 6psi long the way i drive. The stocker has a cc305 on a 114 lsa, 58TB, LT's, and 1.5 RR's. I need more speed, but if I blow the stocker, she sits until the stroker is done. I know shes gonna go BOOM,....but the temptation is still there, especially when you have the SC kit sitting in the closet. Maybe I should just sell the kit and use it to fund the engine. Anyone want a 4.5 psi PD kit with a 6psi pulley and a 7" crank pulley?

hey man, im looking to sell my 6# vortech V2-SQ with aftercooler kit. its only got about 200-300 miles on it. im selling everything, brackets, crane HI-6 with ignition retard, FMU, t-rex fuel pump.....vortech advertises that its good for up to 20psi when pullied to do so....

hit me up if your interested. i dynoed over 400 rwhp with stock bottom end........

thats why im selling it, i dont want to build a new motor and i only drive the car less then 1000 miles a year...just dont need the SC.

Heres a link..... (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361152)

thats cool, what kinda bike did you get? i raced when i was younger....i ride an old 1999 YZ250 now for fun. it still runs real strong, and ive got money into stuff like wheels (kept blowing spoke nipples off the stock wheels), bigger brakes, suspension work etc....and if i ever buy a new bike id have to at least upgrade the wheels and suspension and thats too much money. dirt bikes now days are as much as street bikes used to be!!!!
