hey, just posting to enlighten any of you who were thinking about replacing your loudmouth resonator with a chambered muffler. Well it turned out awesome. I got a 'medium powerstick' chambered muffler from http://www.classicchambered.com/classic/products.html

Heres the model # - 3026SB

It is a 3" muffler, with a 3 inch flowpath, so no bottleneck like with other mufflers. :thumb:

The sound is great. Still loud, but it got rid of the popping when i let off the gas, plus the highway drone is virtually gone.

The only downside is that the muffler is not stainless. Not a big deal.

I give this mod :thumb: :thumb:

That's good to hear.:)

So, you have a single exit drivers side tailpipe now?

no, the muffler is just there in place of resonator. The 20 inch pipe was a perfect fit. Still duals out the back

only problem is the inner baffle is 2 1/2 " on those guys. Plus their double the price. Mine was 69 dollars shipped to my door.

 I understand the .5 inch difference. If one wants stainless and doesnt want to worry about rusting. The half inch isnt a big price to pay. in performance. I originally used the stick in place of the resonator too. Now Im just running it right off the SLP Y-Pipe with a turn down. I cant find a tip thats unique enough out there to make it worth running out the rear. :D

Has anyone else performed this mod? What is your guess on how much it would cost to have the new chambered muffler installed at a shop?

Also, what is your guess on how long would it take before the unit rusts? When would that become a problem?

It should only cost between 30-50 dollars for them to weld it in. (mine was $38)

This unit here is aluminized steel, and depending on conditions (snow, salt, etc..) it should last a good 6-8 years easy. Mine looks brand new still after 6+ months if that helps any.

Thanks,

Okay guys I need help. So should I get the shortest stick from classicchambered since I'm going to put a cutout in the i-pipe also right? You guys think the 16" and cutout will both fit in the i-pipe? Or the medium one and cutout will work too? Help guys, I need to buy the parts today.

I did this, I placed a 3" powerstick on the i-pipe. I purchased it from classicchambered.com. And I love it, can't wait till I put my longtubes then its on. It has a deep throaty sound to it and everyone loves it.

alot of us have done variations of things in the past.. Basically a "bullet" muffler in the I pipe, replacing the "resonator" (which is piping that goes from 3" to 4" diameter..

I used a dynmax "bullet" muffler (forget what model), that looks similar, 3" flow through.. It more "smoothened" out the exhaust rather than quiet it down, well maybe a hair.. I sitll have some highway drone at 6th gear at about 70 mph (that 1900 rpm zone)

My intentions are to rid the car of the drone. How much does it cut back on it? Does it reduce the RPM range at which it occurs or just reduce the volume?

Thanks!

6 speed or auto? Auto would be wayyyyyy to loud with my setup. 5th and more importantly, 6th make my setup work perfect.

Volume is a bit lower. Popping is all gone. I'll post a video/sound clip very soon.

I love the sound of the LM at idle, WOT, and shifting through gears. With 4.10s I end up getting the drone at aprox 1800 - 2100 RPM or about 65-75 in sixth gear. Unfortunately, I usually drive in this range so I get the drone a lot. How much would you say it cuts back on the drone?

I'm looking forward to the audio/video! Can you get some clips of inside the car with the drone at its worst?

Thanks!

I should have some video on thursday i think. I'll post up. It did cut back on quite a bit of drone. Do you have headers? Do you have a cat(s)?

Thanks for posting the video. I was hoping to get a sense of the drone. Would you mind recording what it sounds like in the car with the drone at it's worst?

Thanks again!

Assuming you have stock gears, go on the hghway in 6th, and cruise at about 70-75ish mph.. about the 1900-2100 rpm range.. Thats the spot where the drone REALLY kicks in.. Anyhting below or even above that and it disappears.

If you really don't have the drone there, then I may have to check that one out.. Becaues even with my "bullet" muffler mod, I still get that drone.
