305 or 350? TBI? if its a 305 its junk dont bother. If its a 350, its junk but you can work with it. TBI sucks so I would carb that thing. After you carb it, it should be pretty easy to figure out how to get HP.

I had a 305 tbi in my car before I switch motors. I got it running 14.89's. It's hard to mod a tbi car. If you want it fast and want to do it cheap go carb or TPI setup. I still have the motor and it was strong just not fast!
Mods on 305
4.10 gears
3200 converter
shift kit
long tube headers
mufflex 4in header back system
I never had a bolt of the motor. I think a big cam and some computer mods would get you where you want to go.

IMO yes, because a carb is much easier to tune and you can do away with the computer stuff. I think with the right manifold and carb you could pick up maybe 45 hp. Maybe im a little over on that, but I really think the TBI holds you back. If my car werent TPI I would go carb, but I love the torque the TPI motor puts out.

TBI isnt limiting the car from the factory, its the heads and cam. I wouldnt touch the engine, just do a full exhaust, posi, 3.42s (A4) or 3.73s (T5), ~2600 torque converter (if A4), open element air cleaner, subframe connectors, lca's... It'd be a 14.8-15.0 car which isnt exactly burning up the street, but it'd be ok. To see low 14s or high 13s you'll need heads and a cam, which requires tuning. Regardless, a good dyno session and used 350 injectors wont cost much more than a carb and you'll keep the drivability of FI. A carb is nice if you do heads/cam and really dont want to have someone tune it or take the time to learn it yourself.

Or do the above mods and put a 100 shot on and up the fuel pressure. He'd be where he wanted. I'd probably step up to some 350 injectors though just incase.
