Well both the front and rear bumpers on my car are starting to show their age. The front has a lot of cracking/spiderwebbing and is faded to the point where it is very noticable when the car is in the sunlight. On the rear bumper there is cracking and spiderwebbing and the clear coat is bubbling up also. It isn't faded as much as the front, but it is also not the right shade of black anymore - kinda brownish looking. I recently got new ground effects put on my car and it looks strange to me to have old faded paint on the bumper and brand new deep black paint below it. It just doesn't look good. I've tried hiding it with some cheap black Color Wax that my dad already had. I've put on several coats but it looks the same. I can't afford a repaint right now. I just wanna know what's a good product for covering up things like this and making it look black again. I was thinking about getting the Turtlewax color cure with the chip stick, but I wanted to ask you guys before I wasted more money. There has to be something that will do this. The dealer I bought the car from did a good job of hiding all the blemishes on my car (which I discovered after a few washes), so there has to be some products that will make it look good again.

Once I get the money I was thinking about calling the local Dent Guys and having them repaint the bumpers for me. I think they paint one panel for $70 or so. That would be a good deal if they can get it to look new again. Has anyone here ever done that before?

I bumpers fade differently becuase they are GM's fabulous endura plastic. If you can get a good paint job for 70.00 go for it. I know at my paint shop it cost me 400.00 to get the door painted, but damn did it look good.

 

I found the dent guys ad and it's actually $200 not $70. I think I can get it done at a local shop for that much. But right now I'm looking for a quick fix. Just something to cover it up and make it look decent. Any ideas?

 

Show time by mothers does a decent job of making some of the spider webbing not as apparent from a distnace. As far as the fading, thats my main reason for getting a front end cover. the paint was definatly looking lighter than the rest of the car. So i got the covercraft version and its been on the car for a year now. Despite what people say as long as you keep rocks and small pebbles out of the underside of the cover. It will cause no damage.

 

The bumpers don't match on any cars, I don't think it has all that much to do with fading. The bumpers on my black 97 never matched. They are noticeably lighter than the rest of the body.

 

Although this post is almost a year old, I thought I would give my $.02. I believe the reason the bumper covers fade on the earlier fourth gens is becuase of the paint the factory used. Since the nose sticks out so far they tried to put a lot of "flex" or whatever you want to call it, in the paint, making it dull faster. It does help the chipping and spiderwebbing, but wears down a lot faster. My car is the exact same way, loks like the clear coat faded off of the front and back bumper covers.

 

my bumper was dull as hell when i bought the car (left >> at the hotel on the way home!) after much rubbing compound (takes a lot of force!) and polishing / waxing i got it to shine almost as much as the paint! cheap, and works for the most part

thank you! they are beautiful. as a matter of fact, i was thinking of haing it repainted its original color...but if it costs out the *** maybe i'll look in to the langka or chip doctor..stuff i've read about on the forums. how is that lou's short stick? i know someone who plans to get one.

 

I like the short stick, it really is super short. I installed a pro 5.0 shifter at the same time as my short stick install, so I don't know how well just the short stick would work on a stock shifter. It definitely gives you a super short throw between gears.....think Corvette short, that's about it. The only bad part is that the factory leather shifter boot is way too tall for the short stick, and it kind of bunches up at the bottom of the console. Oh well.
