How to disable the Security

ok here is my problem and it has been going on for a year and i cant find anyone with the same problem. I put the key into the car and turn it to start the car and boom the security light comes on and i cant start the car till 4 mins later when i get to try to start it again after the light goes off. and some times it will come on again and i will have to repeat the process again.

So my question is how to do turn off the security completely off just take the stuff out anyone know or how i could fix this problem

Sounds like the chip in your key or the contacts in the ignition switch are going bad.

Do a search on VATS...everybody and their brother has had this problem, dunno where you've been looking, but you've finally come to the right place!

Re: How to disable the Security

Does your car have any special security device installed?

If not, then it is probably like mine, especially if it is a 94. Now this same thing happened to me a couple of years ago except that mine would never start. I will have to get the wiring diagram of the Helms manual out to recall exactly what I did, but you can disable the security system. It looks at the key resistance (between the two little tabs on the side of the key there is a resistor) to tell if it is the right kind of key, and possibly something else, and it will shut down the fuel injectors so the car will crank but will not start.

If this is what yours is doing, then you can disable that system or buy a new module from GM.

I'll wait to see if this is your problem before I look up the schematic and tell you how to do it.

I bought a Vats delete box from Painless Wiring for my swap. For some reason even with my chip having Vats programmed out it would not turn the injectors on, so I put the box on and it started right up.

It's even easier than you imagined. Measure the resistance of the key pellet with an ohm meter. Get resistors that either singularly or in series come within 10% of the value you measure. At the base of the steering column is 2 white wires wrapped in orange tubing. Pull the connector apart and put one of the resistor legs in each of the contacts on the connector going to the PCM. You can tell the side that goes up the steering column just by observation. Tape up the little jewel and you're done.

It depends on what isn't working. There is more to it than the key resistance detector.
