Question Aluminum or Iron?

corvette engins were aluminum block and heads?
was thinking of replacing my 95 lt1 from my z (I believe i am starting to lose a head gasket) with a lt1 from a 95 vette with about 90000 miles on it mine has 111000 miles. if it is all aluminum does that give me any advantages over mine? also werent the vette engine's was rated at a higher horsepower than the z's were? whats the difference in #'s ?

Re: Aluminum or Iron?

The lt4 vette engines were 4-bolt mains but were still iron. The ls1 is all aluminum.

Re: Aluminum or Iron?

LT1s and LT4s were both iron blocks aluminum heads. Why swap engines for 20k mile difference? Kinda useless if you ask me. A vette LT1 has 4 bolt mains compared to the f bodys 2 bolt mains. They were rated between 30-50 horsepower difference I belive, so on the dyno it would be 15-25ish. Go buy headers and you make the same power. Vettes were faster due to the weight and gearing.
