Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't some European cars now and many more future European cars down the road (will) come with 6 speed automatic trannies? This same type of transmission makes the sport shift or paddle shift mode possible since many of these systems I believe are based upon automatic transmissions. Therefore with both GM and Ford seeing that the competition is too far ahead in developmental years for them to individually catch up, it would make more sense for both of them to work together than for individually each company to not produce a 6 speed and both take market share hit.

You'd think they could design that themselves. Especially GM who is good with advanced technology, they just never use it.

Ford owns jaguar, check out www.ford.com

This news article doesn't bother me. as long as it helps better transmissions get to market quicker. At least they are working with an American company.

I think that's what he kind of meant when he mentioned jaguar, although Ford wouldn't have to buy anything from them. Maybe he meant Ford selling it to GM.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the 2004 Grand Prix has a paddle shift mode.

Lightbulb Good Deal

Keep in mind that this will only be for FWD 6-speeds.

And, yes, GM is a lot further along than Ford in this technology. Remember the Bengal?

But I thought the paddle shift mode on the new 2004 Grand Prix was going to be based on the 4 speed auto. If they haven't changed the transmission, then it would have to be I think.

But FWD Auto 6 speeds, that explains a lot then. The Jaguar system is Ford owned. And I thought GM was developing a 6 speed auto to sell to BMW. So that was weird to me. I guess maybe Ford and GM are trying to get AHEAD of the game this time? That'd be a new one!
