Question Brakes too strong up front?

To give a better understanding Ill just list my entire brake setup..
LS1 front brakes with PBR pads and steel braided lines.
LT1 rear brakes with hawk HPS pads and steel braided lines.
Everythign else is stock 94 lt1 stuff...

Now I was slowing from 80 the other night fairly briskly but having a hard time doing it since it took very little pedal pressure to lock up my front brakes, or engage the abs rather. Later that night I slammed on them from 40 and only the fronts locked... pretty ferociously engaging the abs... I have the same tires front and rear both with good tread and fairly new, less than 5k miles on them... just wondering how to get a little more rear bias to help keep it balanced and give me better overall braking, or really if this is normal and not to be worried about..?

You may want to test to see that your rear brakes are even working. The rears should lock up just before the fronts.

If they are working you need a proportioning valve... Wilwood and other companies sell them. But JMHO, that isn't your problem. I would bet the rears have a blockage of some kind.

Re: Brakes too strong up front?

How exactly do I test to see if they are working? Also how would I determine if there was a blockage? I mean if there was a blockage it would have been hard to bleed them or they wouldnt have bled properly correct? I mean they did bleed normally...?

If they bled normally, then theres probably no blockage. But its possible the pistons on the rear calipers are stuck somehow.... jack the rear of the car up, put it in neutral, get the wheels spinning real good, and hit the brakes, see if they stop immediately like they should. Thats all you can really test.

pull the abs fuse and find a dirt or gravel lot...see what happens when you hit the brakes.

obviously the fronts will lock up, but see if the rears do

i also think you would use a proportioning valve

Re: Brakes too strong up front?

cool ill try all those suggestions since the car will have its rear off the ground tomorrow and gravel is easy enough to find... say I do get a proportioning valve would i adjust it till the rears lock about the same time as front or a little behind or is it just a matter of how you use it and prefferance?

Re: Brakes too strong up front?

Just wondering, how did you find out that the rear weren't getting the ABS to kick on?

Re: Brakes too strong up front?

I could hear it, and feel it, very clearly that there was no noise coming from the back and a lot from the front.
