*WARNING* Cat-back melting the gas tank...Found when putting on the true duals.

I took my Z28 to Midas, To install my true duals, It hangs alot lower than I would have wanted it to, and I have it stop just about even with the axle.

I had the Corsa cat-back with headers and random tech race cats.
I was happy with the sound.

but.... SIIHP (Still Investing In Horse Power) kicked in, .
I noticed before, when I had my Corsa, that the over the axle pipe was pushing up against the heat shield so I pulled the pipe off and found that the pipe was starting to melt the gas tank thru the heat shield
so I removed the heat shield and put a muffler wrap shield, in its place,,,
today when I looked at the tank I about messed my pants,
The heat wrap melted right into the tank,
so any of you with an after market cat back, check it out.

My sever is down right now ..so the pics will be little red X's until it up again.

Even though the pipes hang a bit low,, I's a happy boy, it sounds awesome. and even without turn downs, at 80, there is not much drone, sounds almost as quiet as the Corsa, only deeper.
and sounds damn wine when I hammer the peddle.

At Idle, it sounds so damn fine, as soon as I figure out how to make a sound clip I'll post it.

The change in the ashtray rattles alot more, But I love the sound,

Thanx for the heads up man. I'll check it out when I get home. The last time I was under there, my muffler was about an inch from the heatshield.

I'm not talking about the muffler, I'm talking about the pipe over the axle.

I read about this before and I have been a bit concerned as the muffler on my car is very close to the heat shield. You've motivated me to check it on my next day off too. I think I have plenty of distance from the over the axle to anything but checking that too. Thanks.

unless you have open flames shooting out of your exhaust tips, there's no need to worry about blowing your car up, the worst that would happen is draining the tank on the highway and an expensive replacement.
