help please--83z28 hood louvres knockouts for more air?
Hello, I have an 83 z28, and the hood has two (what looks like 2 grooves as simulated air induction), but where the groove ends, closest towards the front windshield, it looks like it has two knock out pieces that would open two rectanular holes for air induction. It is probably fake..I tried to move them and it seems solid, they are probably not meant to move, but was wandering if they bolt on under the hood???, it would be great it this was two small swivel doors that opened when the throttle was pushed down, or even manual small doors that you could open when you wanted more air to come in and provide extra cooling. It would then be great to be able to close it so no rain gets into the engine compartment. Anyone have any ideas about this???, it seemed it might be an easy way rather than get a new air induction hood, that would be expensive, and also this would look more sleek, since it is low and be more streamlined. Thanks,
Dennis

i know what you are talking about. the holes are not through the hood. you would have to cut some of the hood out.
and really there wouldn't be much gain from it. you'd be better off putting a dual snorkel air filter on and running some tubing to get a ram air or a cold air inlet.

The only functional (opening) louvers on '83 Z28s were on the crossfire equipped cars. Louvers routed cold air onto heads and did nothing for additional intake air.
Which 305 do you have? the dual snorkel L69 "HO" motor or the single snorkel LG4 motor?
If you have the L69 just leave it be as that's a pretty efficient induction set-up. If you have a single snorkel you may want to look at upgrading to a dual snorkel set up.
Also as for removing the two louver plates at the rear of the moldings, there basically screwed in with two small nuts. Removing them as is will only give you two small holes on each side where the bolt ends would slide though.
Not worth it.

I had an 83 Z28 and those two flaps were functional on crossfire injection cars... The air cleaner had an opening that fit up to the two doors when you closed the hood... When the pedal was floored, they would open.
