Talking My Roady mount, cost: $0.00

Up until today I had my Roady just sitting on the center console like this.

It was okay most of the time, but if you happened to accelerate a bit too fast, it flew backwards and usually ended on the floor just dangling from the wires, which is not really a good thing.

All the made-to-fit mounts aremade to be installed to the right side of the console, but I wanted have it closer to me on the left side. So..., time to scour the garage to see what I can find.

I found these two metal strips that are used to mount aftermarket stereo. They came with some stereo I had bought years ago, but never needed. They were pretty much exactly what I needed.

Here's the end result:

I'm using the wireless FM modulator which is currently plugged into the auxiliary outlet in front of the E-brake handle, but in the next couple of weeks, however, I'm going to add a circuit for it and hide it behind the console.

You ought to sand down the metal strips (plumbers lumb), and paint them black so they will fade more into the dash. Other than that it looks really good.

Ditto shoulda'. I was thinking the exact same thing. Otherwise, it's a nice clean mount. Well done.

Yeah, painting the brackets was on my to-do list.

However, I moved the unit a tad to the right yesterday, so there is almost none of the brackets visible anymore. At least not to the driver. Hardly to the passenger, either.

I did get an extra female part of a cigarette lighter, too, and wired it up, but when I plug the FM modulator to it the Roady power on, but no there is no sound. If I plug my radar detector to it, it won't power on. If I plug the FM modulator to one of the OEM outlets, it works fine.

What's up with that? I know I'm not the brightest when it comes to electrical wiring, but since the cigarette lighter needs only power and ground, it should be quite easy...

Any ideas?
