1996 Z28 A4 Stock, Needs Some Work
1996 Z28 A4
99.9% stock: K&N CAI and Flowmaster muffler.
White with black roof, no T-Tops.
Drive spline for water pump chewed up the teeth on the water pump drive, and car overheated. I cannot be 100% certain, but may have blown head gasket.
I would fix it myself, but now that I am back in school and working, I just don't have the time, need to sell it to buy some POS to get me to work. I began to repolace the head gasket, but have only removed the intake so far. I would re-assemble the motor for the sale. Car will start, but will overheat within a few minutes, because water pump isn't spinning.
Make offer.

Re: 1996 Z28 A4 Stock, Needs Some Work
Mileage and condition? How is the paint? Any other problems? How high did the temperature reach when it overheated? Any coolant in the oil? I am interested and will pick up as is if the price and mileage are in my range.

Mileage is 104,000 and change. (actually, I think it's like 103,800). Paint is in decent condition, no major flakes or scratches. There is some crazing of the paint on the front and rear bumber covers. Body is sound with no signs of rust. There is a door ding on the driver side quarter panel about the size of a quarter. There is 4" crack at the top of the front fender on the passenger side.
Transmission shifts smooth, and does not slip. I drove the car for a year, and never beat on it or raced it. I am s l o w l y in the process of doing the work the car needs (new WP drive spline, and Head Gaskets.) I have changed Head Gaskets on other Chevy motors, and know what I am doing.
When the car overheated, it heated up to 260, and the check guages light came on. I pulled over right away, turned the heat on full, and let it idle for 15 seconds or so, not wanting to heat-soak the engine if I could avoid it. When I realized the air was cold coming out of the vents, I shut it down and did not re-start it. I towed the car home, and drained the coolant, oil, and pulled the spark plugs. All plugs were dry and gray-brown, the oil was oil colored with no signs of coolant mixed, and the coolant was clear. I noticed a slight film in the coolant, but I did drain it into a pan I had used for oil a week before. I started it the next day to diagnose the problem, and it started on the first crank. The WP was making an awful screeching noise because of the stripped splines, but the motor and exhaust note sounded normal as far as I could tell. There was a *bit* of a miss if you blipped the throttle at idle. I never let it heat to above 215-220 while I was diagnosing it. I noticed a steady stream of small bubbles (like if you blew into a straw) in the radiator with the cap off and engine running, this is why I concluded a blown Head Gasket.
I would personally love to fix the car, but I just don't have the time. I caught the problem right away, and I honestly believe the damage was minimal. I can take some pics and e-mail them, but I have no way to host.
I am 1 Hour, 45 Minutes south of Albany, 1 hour north of White Plains, NY, and 1 hour northeast of Orange County Choppers.
How much do I want for it? I will be honest, I want enough to buy a used, 4 or 5 year old asian 4 banger that will get me to work...like a hyundai even...just enough to get me down the road. Money is really tight, and I need to sacrifise the fun for practicality right now.
