Hidden MP3 player system. Maybe I-pod or similar??

Hi guys, not a camaro but my daily driver 70 C10. I want to get an Mp3 player setup but I do not want ANY stereo parts visible. Luckily the old truck has lots of room under dash. What I have planned is 2x 4" round in the stock speaker location (centre of dash) and 2x 6x9" under dash pointing at your feet. I plan on having a electric motor drop down/raise the head unit when the key is turned on/off. I need some help on the head unit though. I am not sure if I have room for a fullsize car unit so I am thinking about an I-pod or similar. If I go that route, can I just connect the I-pod to a small amp and have the I-pods volume control the speakers?
What I want out of the system is:

Room for 500songs or more
fairly small size, 6"X8" or so max
GOOD search function
equalizer (doesnt NEED to be a fully adjustable type. Preset options are fine)
reasonable price

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Cheers.

The sunvisor is not really an option because the sunvisors are HUGE on these trucks. Having to move that thing around everytime I want to adjust the volume or song would suck. Also if there are wires there is no way to hide them going up to the visor. I guess I could remote mount the faceplate like you are talking about to pop out from under the dash instead of a i-pod. Then I am not sure how to get the music to the head unit though. I will have to look into whats available. The local stores suck, always some goof trying to sell you the most expensive peice so he can get a commision. They dont get you what you want, just what makes them more money

There is an outfit that sells what they call "hidden stereo". They modify name brand radios to fit under seats, dashes, trunks, etc. They were made so people could use them in classic cars without butchering anything. I think it would work in your truck, although they're not cheap. I can't think of the name of the company, but they have a website. Maybe search on "hidden stereo" or "classic car radios" or something might find them.
