rskrause 10-06-2002, 05:24 PM What a beautiful day it was today (Sunday) at NYI. The effective altitude was ~1,100 feet, the best it's been all year. Sunny with a light breeze and temps in the mid 60's :).
And I have finally figured out how to launch my car :D. The key was finding the right rpm to activate the nitrous. I made three runs using a 3300rpm chip in the window switch. The first 60' was just over 1.6 and the last two were in the 1.5's - FINALLY. The best was 1.581. I was very happy with this, as my suspension setup is completely wrong for drag racing. The car is a little down on power, so since my best run was 11.108 @126.06 I can clearly see the 10's now. I know that's not near what the "big dogs" run, but for a fully equipped street car with a manual, I am pleased.
Anyway, I am going again next Sunday if the weather is nice and hope to see some of you guys. It is considered a test 'n tune, so it's only $12!
Rich Krause
Nice Rich!! I think Im going friday and maybe sunday than too.
I can see tens in your future!
Jason Short 10-06-2002, 07:36 PM Nice Rich....I am stoked for you!!
I am definatly bummed....missed a great day due to a glowing #5 header primary that I cant figure out. I probably could have trapped 125mph NA today too :(
Jason
99LS1Power 10-08-2002, 12:19 AM I want to go at least once more this year. I think I have hockey practice on sunday...what time is the track running?
Sat. I think I may be getting my defensive tactic and handcuff training certifications but I am not sure if I can get into the classes.
LMK whats up. $12 sounds decent. NOV is real busy on the weekends for hockey but I may skip class on a wednesday and go if need be. Or on a TNT sunday that I don't have games on.
Can I get a link to the schedule by chance? Jason do you have it?
Thanks.

Droopy 10-08-2002, 01:39 AM hey, i may go sunday
this is alot easier than fridays for me, but i am undecided on when to go and see what the gtp can do.
hopefully i will know more as the week goes on
dave
99LS1Power 10-08-2002, 03:27 AM Thanks for the link Jason.
Looks like NOV. 3rd is my best bet.
I have a game this Friday vs. U of R and the 13th I am suppose to have practice (that sun. is a full program anyways)
The 27th is the last day of a 3 day tournament and I am assuming it will be a full 3 days and not just 2...if it turns out to be just 2 then that would be a possible for me also. I highly doubt it though.
So, if I am wrong correct me, that leaves me with just NOV 3rd? Fridays are done, Wednesday's are done.....
So I am planning for NOV 3rd. I hope the weather is good and that I can make it out there.
If I missed some dates that might be possibles please let me know.

They are running Nov. 3? Weather would be iffy, but I'm up for it if you guys are!
Two interesting cars were on the dyno at Bob Kennedy's shop this week. An otherwise stock Z06 made ~570rwhp with a 10lb ATI twin intercooler setup  . It wasn't going to hold together with that much boost, so Bob pulleyed it down to 7-8lbs and it still made low 500's.
A 540ci Lingenfelter Viper conversion made nearly 600rw. But for a $38.500+ conversion it ought to! Had a pretty radical cam - lumpy idle and all. Still sounded like s**t though.
I had an interesting street race with a Viper GTS the other day. The car had heads, cam, and an exhaust and it was FAST. I almost needed the N2O - had my finger on the button but walked him without it :D.
The competition is getting tough out there. I am strongly considering a 300hp port nitrous system for next year.

Your getting crazy Rich :D
Yes NYI says NOV 3rd, be just like last year cold cold cold!!! I am going to go then.
Jason Short 10-08-2002, 11:59 AM Yeah, Nov3 is the date I am gearing for....that and the weekend before that. Weather would be nice a cold, and the best times will be possible then.
I am also going to spray next year as I have started to accumulate the parts for it....gonna start with a 125shot and work up to a 200. Heads are coming off the car this winter as well for some additional work.
I am going to swap my opti out again (3rd time this year) and hopefully that will get rid of this glowing header (rich #5 cylinder).
Jason
99LS1Power 10-08-2002, 01:28 PM Jason,
Lets all plan to be there NOV 3rd.
Also the weekend before you mention...OCT 27th you mean? I would/will make it if I am home from the hockey tourney. I doubt it my schedule says 25,26,and 27th for that. So I doubt I will be able to. Since these are all Sunday TNT its only 12$ right? What time do gates open? Running till 9:30 or 10? Or are Sun in the day?
I forget... :)
I plan on going every friday and possibly sunday left for the rest of the year. Im going to get a 12.3-12.4, I dont care if I have to tow the car home.:D
Rich. Dont be so mean to those vipers, let those guys feel good about the 100,000 dollars they spent. Screw the 300 get a 500 and go for the fastest 4th gen!LOL;) :metal:
If I can find a decent paying job sometime between now and spring I might go with a 125 shot also.Im just hoping the tranny holds up for the rest of this year, its already flirted with the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift.:(
See you guys at the track.

F-bud: to tell the truth, I have been flirting with the idea of setting the car up to run with the "big dogs". The power would actually be the easy part. Just like you suggest: put a 500hp port nitrous system on! But I enjoy the car so much on the street that I don't want to make any changes that would interfere with that. All along the idea has been a very fast but enjoyable street car. Something about cruising to the track (though I did buy a trailer this year I haven't been using it) and ripping off) with the AC on and ripping off some fast times and cruising home appeals to me.
Besides the weight of all the "comfort" stuff, the really insoluble problem in going insanley fast is the transmission. I do not want an automatic. The T56 is clearly a limiting factor. A Lenco is not suitable for more than brief, occasional street use. I have been looking into a G-Force. But having had the chance to drive a car with one recently, it's kind of rough. Fun to think about though!
The weather Sunday is looking poor, but I am gonna try! Nov. 3 is a good day to shoot for, I hope it's nice.

I've been tring to find you local upsate NY'ers on the net for awhile.
Who is headed up for the test and tune on Friday?
Bret
All I can say is good luck rich, and its true not too many if any of the big dogs can do as you say. Internally what would you need for more boost besides N20? Bigger cam? Besides the tranny what else would you need? More suspension?
I drive an A4 so I cant totally relate to your desire to drive an M6 but you must ENJOY the car you drive so I defenitely see your point.
Lighten the car up for a month or two for track only use to get all your fast times in say early spring or fall?
Hell I enjoy planning and formulating ideas for you LOL!:D
Good luck either way though, I would proud as hell saying I know one of the fastest fourth gens of all time.:)

Rich I was meaning to ask you this. So you said the effective altitude was 1,100 feet. So does that mean we can correct our ET's based on altitude? Would 1000 feet really throw things off?Just wondering.....
Droopy 10-09-2002, 12:35 AM im gonna try to go friday, but, i am not sure i am gonna make it this week
i will try for the following week
matt, i will send the cable....
this is starting to become expensive. if i can get enough gp'ers to go, i might go...i gotta see whats going on.
im so undecided right now...fack!

The correction factors used by a drag racing weather station indicate what the "denstiy altitude" would be. The variables are temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. The density altitude is taken from the U.S. standard atmosphere table. This table relates the air density of a "standard" day at sea level (59 degrees, 29.92 inHg) and how it changes at different elevations. IOW a density altitiude of 1,100ft indicates that the air density is equal to the density which would be seen at that altitude on a day when the sea level conditions were "standard".
NYI is usually 2200-2400ft so 1100 feet is excellent. The NHRA correction factors are based on "density altitude". For example, at 1100ft the correction factors are .9874 for ET and 1.0129 for MPH. So my 11.108 @ 126.1mph corrects to 10.97 @ 127.7mph at sea level.
I hope that was clear?
Rich Krause
Very clear Rich thank you.
rskrause 10-12-2002, 06:12 PM We are going to go to NYIRP tomorrow, rain or shine! It looks like rain in the morning and clearing at about noon. If I can get two or three runs in, it will be worth it since the end of the season approaches :( I am convinced the car is down on power given my trap speeds last week (126-127mph) but the car seems to run ok and I am now definitely taking the motor out anyway over the winter. The plan is getting pretty definite: some billet rods and a 300+hp port nitrous system. Maybe some work on the exhaust ports and I will probably try a different cam as well.
I will be in the "pro" (paved) pit area near Bob Kennedy's big white car hauler and hope to see some of there.
Rich Krause
Jason Short 10-12-2002, 10:04 PM Now I have no chance of keeping up to Rich :) Rich, I hope you can make it to Oct 27 and Nov 3 weather depending....I hope to have the 12 bolt in by then and I am going to see what this motor can really do.
I REALLY like your car....just the entire setup....the more I think about it (which I have alot lately) the more I really think it is amazing.
I will buy your ET Streets and rims if you go with a larger tire for next year...which I assume so with the trap speeds you will be seeing :)
Jason
rskrause 10-13-2002, 02:00 PM Rained out :(
I will be going next Sunday, weather permitting and on Nov. 3rd. I can't make the 27th.
Jason: I didn't know you put the 12-bolt in. Awesome! If you are willing to change them you can try my 16" ET Streets out on Nov. 3rd. As soon as I'm sure if I'll be going to a bigger tire, I know where they can find a good home :)
Rich Krause
Rich Im looking forward to next season now!!!
You too Jason! You better come damn close or get those tens. Ive been bragging your ear off lately with those kids I know that you talked to at the track. Your known as the kid with the fast ass formula now. :D :metal:
Unfortunatley my car seems to be down on power too. Im trapping 3 or so MPH lower now than when I went back in July.:(
Im not sure what it is? The car has crappy topend, idles really irractically, and wants to konk out from time to time. The RPM's slowly drop to nothing unless I give it gas to keep it going.
I would like to rebuild but my stomach needs food more.:( I gotta get a new job.
