I just got a 224/224 .563 .563 112 lsa cam.

I was looking at the comp 918 springs as I have seen some people use them on these boards.

But I noticed I can get these springs from scoggin dickey WITH titanium retainers for the about the same price as 918's alone...I just dont know if they will bolt up and work and or if they are any good?

What does no damper mean?

any advice would be appreciated....thanks

you can use the tr224 cam with stock valvetrain.

Wha? I thought the stock springs were barely good for a .500 lift?

We prefer customers use a good double spring such as the PRC spring kit.

The kit includes springs, seats, seals & titanium retainers for $289.99

If your wanting to save money & go single springs I would look into the 918 comps.

well, yeah, for durability issues it's always good to upgrade your springs, but the .563 lift tr224 will work with stock springs. :D

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

Running stock springs with ANY aftermarket cam is a horrible terrible idea. Aftermarket springs are not just for durability, but also for performance and practicality. Running stock springs on a high lift can cause major valve float, severly decreasing power. It can also cause P/V clearence issues, which can possibly destroy your motor, especially in the higher RPM range. Larger cams such as the T-Rex and G5X3 will snap the stock springs like toothpicks due to the high lift. Running stock springs with a TR224, which is much larger than the stock cam, is a horrible idea. Why do all these modifications and skip on the springs? They should not be overlooked.

Well...yeah I think just about everyone knows that you need to change valve springs...but thats besides the point....Are those springs/retainers any good?

I found on ls1.com that they are manley nextek springs...along with titanium retainers...for 178 bucks...I think thats a pretty good deal....IF they will work and are any good...so?

Have a link to them?

Personally I would stick to what works, 918s. I have never heard of those other springs. Post a like anyways so I can take a look.

The link is in my second post.

What does it mean when they say no damper?????

I did a search on ls1.com and found several guys using those springs, they are not sdpc springs but are Manley Nextek or something like that...they have all had good luck with them...but I am not SURE yet.

thanks

Those seem awfully cheap, but if they work then get them.

A very thin weak spring inside the spring to help with harmonics.

Birch...

how on earth can a spring designed for .525" max lift EVER work reliably with a cam that has .560" of lift????

maybe the rest of the vavle train is sufficient...but springs are REQUIRED for that kind of lift!!!

The Comp 918s will work great with that cam, with or without the titanium retainers. If you just want to go with dual springs I would recommend the Crane duals. Hope this helps.....

For dual springs look at the Patriot Golds or the PRC kit. Both are priced around 290 for everything needed including springs, seals, seats, locks, and titanium retainers. The PRC kit uses stock locks but the Patriot kit gives you new ones.
