subs and enclosures
subs:
i was wondering whta some people opinions were on the alpine type x's and jlw6v2's. the w7's are just tom much money for my taste. i am also open to suggestions on any other brands of subs. thanks
enclosures:
i was looking at putting in either 2 10" subs or 2 12" subs and i was looking at the stealth boxes on subthump.com and was wondering if the driver side enclosure would work with an alpine type x 10"sub. also what size mdf is the enclosures made out of?

Re: subs and enclosures
I work at a car audio dealer, and we sell both the Type X and the W6.
Have you seen the size of the Type X in person? It's huge. I really don't think you could build a box to proper size (keeping in mind this sub needs at least 3/4" MDF) to fit in the stealth boxes.
Sub vs. Sub, the W6 is by far a better choice. Amazing SQ, and also a very loud and hard hitting sub. If space is an issue, I would recommend just running one of the 12's in a ported box. The 10" W6's *might* fit in the stealthbox locations.
Even if you have to go down to "lowly" W3's, you won't be disappointed.

Email subthump.com and ask.
Or PM megabass.

Or wait a few days and I'm sure he'll pop in with his extensive knowledge, and sell you what you need. I own a subthump box, and I just have to say it is a WONDERFUL box. And subthump.com / megabass can and will work with you personally to get you the setup you need.

My boxes are hand-built by me and I can make changes on the fly and match interiors and make sure the openings will fit your subs without requiring any additional work. Wherelse can you buy something where the people on the other end actually care and are looking out for you to make sure what you're getting is right for you? I know I would buy off me lol. All the places I buy supplies from just have automated replies (if any) and when you call them up, they don't care what your name is, the stupid operator just wants your order number so she can look it up on a computer. Because otherwise she has no clue who you are and what you ordered. That's all you are with most places and I hate that. Just a number. With me, you are a real person. When I record an order, most importantly I write down the person's name and what their car is and what color the interior is at the top of the form. A lot of times I'll even write your name inside the box as I'm building it. That way you know that box was meant for you right from the beginning. Not picked off a shelf.
And no, I'm not anywhere near upset. I just hate to be taken for granted is all. Anymore I hardly ever have anyone that writes back and says thank you. That always meant the world to me and without it, it's just that much harder to go on. My boxes won't be around forever. Right now, I don't even want to think about the day when I will no longer be doing f-body enclosures. They are the reason I started doing this (not to mention my favorite boxes to build he he). But without that support, that day gets closer and closer.
And at some point I will just give up and throw in the towell because everybody is buying the same pre-fab junker from some unknown person off ebay because it's cheap and I guess everybody wants the exact same gray carpeted box. And how can you compete when all anyone sees is the difference in the price and doesn't take into account that box for box, they are getting so much more with my box. Lighter and better materials, better fit, superior sound, custom logos, custom, custom, custom. Why would you go elsewhere?
Re: subs and enclosures
i am glad to hear that some one still takes pride in their work. that is hard to find someone that actually likes to work with the customer instaed of just being obvious annoyed by them. if you want i have the web address for my local forums for you to maybe put out a word.
oh yeah i was wondering what size mdf you use for your boxes and also could you build a box for a certaim amount of airspace. for example if i wanted a dual 12" sealed enclosure with 1.25'?
