Help! 6-speed swap won't go into gear.
I'm working on a friend's '98 T/A that somebody else did an auto to 6-speed swap on. He put a '99 tranny into the car with late model hydraulics. The problem is that the guy at the shop that did the conversion didn't know much about these cars and may have used an early throwout bearing with the late hydraulics. What will the car do with an early TOB with late hydraulics? The problem we're having is that the clutch won't disengage, even with the pedal fully to the floor. This is my buddy's only car and he needs it back ASAP!

did you guys bleed the hydraulics?? I know it may be a dumb question, but it'll do just that. The Throwout bearing should be ok if it's an earlier clutch. I can imagine that have changing much. I'd bet there's an air bubble in the hydraulics. If not then maybe the bearing isn't sitting properly, or the clutch is junk.

Interesting. I don't know if the previous shop bled the clutch after they did the swap. I'll try it. ow do you bleed the clutch on these cars? I did a search and didn't find anything.

there should be a bleeder on the slave cyl. it'll look like a brake bleeder. You can bleed it one of a few ways. the old fashion pump, bleed, etc. or with a vaccum bleeder, by hand or power bleed it. either way you do it, it should help. Is the clutch new or is this used?? If it's used it could be a bad pressure plate as well. there are a lot of variables here.
