Question Polishing glass?

Is there a way to polish glass? I lost a t-top early this summer because someone had forgot to latch it. I found one on the board and the person said it was in perfect condition. However, when I recieved it, the glass is all scratched up and looks worse than the passenger side. Is there any way to get the scratches out? Or am I just S.O.L? I haven't really tried anything because of summer and it was off the car most of the time. Fall is here and it's back on to drive it and it looks like hell. Any suggestions?

Alright, thanks. Does anyone have any experience with that stuff or anything else? Or am I just being far fetched?

Re: Polishing glass?

You can't buff scratches out of glass. It needs to be replaced...there's no way to do it without changing the prescription of the glass. If they've VERY light, try Zaino Z12. If not, the glass needs to be replaced.

Lightbulb Re: Polishing glass?

I have used the Eastwood product, and it will work, contrary to what some may tell you, but not if the scratch is deep.....if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, you probably can't just buff it out, or like someone else said, you'll end up changing the glasses prescription, but I have carefully and successfully buffed out some minor windshield wiper scratches with the rhodite powder & buffing wheel from Eastwood Co. As a matter of fact, I will probably buff some out of the SS I just bought.....why do people wait until their wiper arms scratch the damned windshield before replacing them? I have had three F bodies, and all had a few wiper scratches.........enough bitchin'.......if the scratches are minor, it will work, but it will take a lot of effort, and you'll need to keep the buffing wheel wet & not get the glass too hot......that's my .02.

Re: Polishing glass?

Guess, thanks for the info, I guess sometimes people are careless. Do you know where I could get that eastwood product you are talking about? Thanks

I guess it doesnt really matter if the perscription changes or not because I have t-top shades on. They just have a little swirl that drives me crazy.

This is what I bought, & still have a lot left. I just saw on their site another glass polishing kit for heavier scratches, too, so you may want to check it out if yours are deep enough to catch your fingernail on. Good Luck!
