What is SSRAmook99TA 10-11-2004, 12:50 PM Sorry if I am an idiot but what is the SSRA everyone is talking about? darrens99formul 10-11-2004, 02:16 PM SSRA = Super Sucker Ram Air It's a two scoop design that draws air into your airbox from outside the car instead of in front of the radiator like most CAI's do. First scoop goes under the airbox and runs down along the radiator. The second scoop fits into the first one and attatches to the bottom of your front bumper with a handful of screws. The kit also has a rubber stripping to block the air from the front so you get a slight "ram air" affect at high speeds (100+). The unit costs $200 or so and LMPerformance is where I got mine. I'm very happy with mine and would recommend it above any CAI kit out there. BirchMan98z 10-11-2004, 07:38 PM lol Doesn't anyone have google any more? This question has popped up at least 30 times in the last 2 weeks. :D calee 10-11-2004, 09:32 PM are there any tricks to put in a ssra?how long will it take to install?thanks for your help.i have a 2000 z28 ss. teke184 10-11-2004, 10:50 PM took me about an hour to install... most of that being the removal of some plastic from the air box with a small saw. darrens99formul 10-12-2004, 07:57 AM Mine took about an hour as well to install. The kit comes with installation instructions and you only need a few basic hand tools. dren70 10-12-2004, 04:12 PM lt1 guy here. sorry for the ignorance but doesnt he also need an air box ?? i am not sure how that is diff than or what a lid is  . i am asking because i am thinking of making the leap to the ls1 and i would like to learn as much as i can before spending a few thousand (after trade / sell). i thought the stock air box is right there at the top of the radiator so just getting colder air there will still need an aftermarket air box / lid (??) thanks. david darrens99formul 10-12-2004, 04:24 PM lt1 guy here. sorry for the ignorance but doesnt he also need an air box ?? i am not sure how that is diff than or what a lid is  . i am asking because i am thinking of making the leap to the ls1 and i would like to learn as much as i can before spending a few thousand (after trade / sell). i thought the stock air box is right there at the top of the radiator so just getting colder air there will still need an aftermarket air box / lid (??) thanks. david No he won't need an airbox. LS1's come with a plastic airbox that has a crappy lid with silence baffles on it. It's a very restrictive lid but that's all that needs to be replaced. The guy here all ready had a whisper lid in his mod list so he's good to go. Then you cut out the bottom of the airbox (aka FRA mod) as part of the SSRA installation instructions and install the SSRA scoops under it. So the air comes from outside the car (front of the car and just under the front bumper), travels through the two scoops and into the bottom of the airbox where it goes through the filter and then finally into the engine. So in the simplest terms, the lid is how the airbox is sealed (aftermarkets are $100 and worth 10 rwhp) and the SSRA is a ram air kit that feeds the air to the airbox from underneath and is worth 12 rwhp or so (at speed so dynos won't show the gain). Hope that helps dren70 10-13-2004, 07:35 PM thanks darren. excellent answer. david | ||
