Anyone know of a nice John-rude or Mercury outboard that's for sale at a good price? I'm looking for a nice used 9.9 to 15 hp motor that's been well cared for. Don't want no stinkin' junk.
Keep your eyes open for me.
Thanks,

I'm still looking, fellas. I have narrowed it down to a two stroke, Merc, Johnson or Evinrude, 15" (short) shaft. Five to 10 years old is preferred. Must be excellent condition.
Bills77, I never heard back. What's up?

What happened? Did you finally get a speeding ticket on the lake and now you need to "slow it down"? Or, perhaps are you going to make your own personal watercraft out of that old Wheelhorse by welding a couple of 55-gallon drums to the deck?

Naw, nothing like that. When I was 14-15, we had a 14 footer with a Johnson 9.9 and some of my best times ever were spent just screwing around the water with that boat. Now that my kid is that age, I'm hoping he'll see the potential fun in that. Beats sitting in front of a screen all damn day. Anyway,I found the boat, now all I need is the motor. I toyed around with picking up a PWC, but I just couldn't reconcile turning a 14 yo loose on something that can do 60 on the water. Plus, they are so damn breakable. A 14 footer with a 9.9 is nearly indestructible.
Keep a look out for me.

Hey, now that you mention it, when I was fifteen, I spent a WEEK on the water up at Alcona county park near Glennie, with my dad's 12-foot rowboat and a 15 HP outboard motor. I burned up five or ten gallons of fuel over the course of seven days, and had terrific fun blasting down the Au Sable towards the Bamfield dam. Boating, Fishing, boating, eating, snoozing on the island, more boating, fishing, and dinkin' around in the state forest with the .22 and a bagful of old rusty beer cans.
I kind of forgot about that summer: It was the best week of the whole summer.
