Question About 04 Cobra With The F1a Procharger

I have a question about the 04 cobras and the new kit from ati procharger called the f1a. I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this on. I'm not a fan of ford. I own a camaro z28. But I was reading that with this new kit you can run 650hp to the wheels. Is that true?? Do you have to build the cobra engine up to handle more boost?? I was thinking about buying one - stock and having this kit put on. But if you have to build the internal parts up I might have second thoughts??

That's an excellent question for corral.net or Procharger themselves..

I believe those are legit numbers. If I'm not mistaken, MMFF track tested the Procharged Cobra. I don't remember the actual track times, but I do remember that it was consistant with ~600 rwhp. It's a pretty neat setup, as Procharger actually includes a sheetmetal intake to replace the Eaton factory blower. And since the shortblock is forged with ARP rod bolts right from Ford, it'll take a serious beating. Not a Ford fan, but definitely two thumbs up.

Yes those are real #'s. The Cobras come from the factory with a fully built motor-Forged crank, Manley forged H-beam rods, and forged pistons. There are several ProCharged Cobras out there making over 600 at the wheels with only 15-18 lbs of boost, and the engine is in perfect condition. Look for one to make about 30 lbs. soon!

So your telling me I can buy a new 04 cobra stock. Buy this procharger kit f1a with a boost like 20 psi. Without upgrading the internals. Will the stock internals hold a boost like that. It's gonna last over 30k correct without a rebuild. I know you have to upgrade injectors, etc, etc. I just want to know is there anything to upgrade internal wise. I might go that route. I hate to spend 35k on a new cobra, 5k on the kit and 10k, or so the engine blows. THAT WOULD SUCK. I might go that route with a 20psi boost and a 100shot nos. - WHOS NEXT???

Yes, you are correct. All you have to do is have a bone stock 04 Cobra, add the Procharger, and as long as the tune is good and not overly aggresive, the engine should last a LONG time.

Thanks Man, I think the highest boost they have in the f1a and all I would want is 24 psi which is the highest boost. How much rwhp (estimate) should I have with a bone stock 04 cobra and 24psi of boost??? Also how long do you think the engine will last for on this boost. - Mike

How do you expect to run pump gas with 24 PSI of boost? You expect this car to be a daily driver and make 650 RWHP? How much research have you done on this or anything like this? I think you're playing with fire..

What boost should I go with. I want something to push 650 at the wheels or close anyways and still be able to drive it everyday - almost. Theres allot of people with cobras with this much power that is every day dependable car.

Belive it or not, it is possible on pump gas, and it will drive like stock.....check out this article by Muscle Mustang....http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/features/0409mm_drag/

friend of mine put down 725 rwhp with the F1a setup...definitely impressive!

Just keep in mind that 4.6L supercharged Cobras make good power, but never run as well as you might expect. My brother has made 475 rwhp, but can only manage 117 mph in the quarter. Compare this to my 550 rwhp and 133 mph in a similar weight Z28.

Interesting article.. I know they say we can make big power on pump gas, but that doesn't mean they did it.. Larocca's has a good rep and of course MMFF is biased, I say we wait a bit and see if the motors blow up and they run the way they are supposed to.. Procharger claims we can run 8#'s of boost on the stock motor with no other mods, how many people have we seen blow up their motors running that combo? I know I'm one of them ..

I'm not hating on Ford or Mustangs or anything like that, I am of a fan of anyone who mods their car and goes fast, just a bit skeptical of huge #'s and no test time..
