NLman3 08-29-2004, 10:03 PM Does anyone know what the stock RWHP was on the 98 SS? i have a 98 with crane cam and mildy ported heads and intake along with hooker LT's and y pipe and gmmg echaust..the dyno chart says 313.4 RWHP does that sound odd? will a dyno tune help me out a good amount? thanx Greg
teke184 08-29-2004, 10:19 PM stock for the 98s was probably around 285 for auto, and 295 for M6...give or take.
with a cam, heads and headers you should be well over 350 to the wheels...get a tune...it must be holding you back horribly
94ZRiCeKiLr 08-30-2004, 02:43 AM with heads/cam and an M6 you should put out 370 rwhp MINIMUM....
was this a dynojet or a mustang dyno (load bearing dyno)????
in either case (though more the dynojet), something is definitely not running right with your car...
AL SS590 M6 08-30-2004, 06:04 AM Our 98SS put out 287rwhp on a Mustang dyno with just a llid and free mods.
dyers98 08-30-2004, 04:13 PM Discover just aired a Horse Power show last Saturday. They're doing a 98 SS from stock to bolt ons. From the get go, Their Car (98 SS w/ 80k, m6) dynoed at "around 300 RWH," After just the SLP lid, cai and 3" flowmaster cat they dynoed her at 319 RWH. These cars all seem to dyno differently. just depend on the car?
Machine 08-30-2004, 04:22 PM My 98 Z28 put mid-290's to the wheels with no mods. It's gone now (sold), but it was a couple points higher than my 2002 SS (which only had 1000 miles at dyno time).
Matt
NLman3 08-30-2004, 04:43 PM what is a mustang dyno..i mean the car feelsl ike it is running fine so i dunno...we'll hafta see after a tune
psychocabbage 08-30-2004, 05:07 PM Mustang dyno = Dynometer made by a company called "Mustang". It applies a load and will usually spit out lower numbers than Dynojet numbers.
Mustang dynos are often better for tuning a car. Dynojet numbers ,I have found, work out better mathmatically for figureing out your cars potential... Also since they (dynojets) are more common, many people find it easier to relate their HP #'s to eachother but in reality, you can only really compare dynos from the same dyno on the same day...
94Z28rag 08-30-2004, 05:12 PM my friend has a 2000 SS M6 with just a Borla cat-back and a lid and he put down 330 RWHP. He's also running mid-high 12's trapping 110-112 MPH with just those mods.

I think he must have left out (or is hinding) a mod. I find that hard to believe. Are you sure?
blazers 08-31-2004, 11:08 AM My 02 SS M6 with FLP LT headers and GMMG and tune up pulled 338/rwhp. After a mild street cam it pulled 384/rwhp and 381/rwtq.

You are still running the stock rearend putting down 384?

illl buy that...a guy i used to know had an 02 WS6 that put down 331 top the wheels with a lid and loudmouth only....he managed to drive it to a best of 12.38 @ 114 with nothing more than the lid, catback, nittos, and no front swaybar.
robvas 08-31-2004, 11:54 AM Can't really compare dyno numbers unless everyone used the same one on the same day/weather conditions.
blazers 08-31-2004, 12:28 PM You are still running the stock rearend putting down 384?
Yes, I am still running the stock rear.
Machine 09-01-2004, 08:04 AM My 02 SS M6 with FLP LT headers and GMMG and tune up pulled 338/rwhp. After a mild street cam it pulled 384/rwhp and 381/rwtq.
I'll buy this dyno number, but not sure about the cat-back and lid putting down 330. Did you also have a lid?
falchulk 09-01-2004, 08:40 AM Yes, I am still running the stock rear.
How long have you been running that way? I would like to do the same thing but I was worried about the rear holding up.
blazers 09-01-2004, 12:08 PM I'll buy this dyno number, but not sure about the cat-back and lid putting down 330. Did you also have a lid?
My SS had the 345 hp option, so it had the SLP lid.
blazers 09-01-2004, 12:14 PM How long have you been running that way? I would like to do the same thing but I was worried about the rear holding up.
I've had the cam in since the beginning of May of this year. Does not get very good traction. First run on cam was 109 mph. The rear will be safe with street tires on it. Over 400/rwhp and drag radials, the rear becomes suspect.
BirchMan98z 09-01-2004, 07:19 PM Im Running the stock rear end... the key is not using slicks. A little tirespin saves $2000.
