95_RipperZ 09-29-2002, 12:42 AM Had fun once again with Gary and Jeff. I recorded a new best although it is really just a tie of my old ET. Here are my runs.
#1- 13.884 @ 100.88 w/ 2.163 60'
#2- 13.824 @ 101.73 w/ 2.154 60'
#3- 13.741 @ 102.73 w/ 2.177 60'
#4- 13.838 @ 100.93 w/ 2.147 60' and GF in the car. Needless to say I got yelled at on that one too.
New sig will read 13.7 @ 103 w/ 2.2 60' though. ;) Round to the nearest # rule. :p
All in all I was same ET w/ 1 mph faster and a slower 60'. Waswa, I should have got those tires. lol :) Things are looking good but I think I have something broke inside the driver side valve cover. I'll check it out this winter.
CANTONRACER 09-29-2002, 01:05 AM If you get a good tq and some tires, even with your 2.73's your car would pick up probably a good .5 seconds, maybe more.
Good times. How did the other guys do?
Gary 95 Z28 M6 09-29-2002, 01:28 AM well im finally starting to show signs of improvement:D what sucks is that i only got to make 1 good run due to the fact that i got off 2 exits early and the place was packed!!!:cry: anyways heres my only real run (don't ask about my first run, the track official told me to shut down at the 1/8 or leave cuz i didnt have a helmet on that run and my exhaust was a little loud with the cutout uncapped) ran a 14.8@77 :D :D
5.10 r/t :D
2.207 60ft:rolleyes:
13.137 1/4
110.40 1/4 mph
my car would not hook up at all either!!! what do you expect with kuhmos though, 2nd and 3rd shifts were scary, the ass end slid out bad!!! it never did that in 3rd before!! im just glad that its finally starting to run like it should, weird thing is all i did since the last time i went to the track was add a afpr, i doubt that did much but who knows, i still need to track down my knock retard problem too, now that ive renewed confidence in my car im gonna get it dynoed and fix all the drivability problems it has, all in all it was a good day
Grease 09-29-2002, 09:36 AM Hey Gary your car is pretty fast, even faster than mine:bow: The fastest I ever ran on Kumhos was against Ryan, 13.179 @ 106.58mph and that was with a 2.016 60ft. Who knows what you could have run if you had drag radials. Your mph on Kumhos was higher than my best mph on drag radials:metal:
CANTONRACER 09-29-2002, 11:04 AM Great runs Gary. I would not be surprised if you ran low 12's@112-113 if you would have had some traction. Congrats. Just what until you start working out the bugs and tuning issues.
95_RipperZ 09-29-2002, 11:30 AM Damn Gary, that was a good run. You should definitely be at least mid 12s with that.
Highlight of the day though was a old Toyota Spirit??? that straight gave it to me. 11.7 @ 106. :eek:
EDIT: Jeff was able to break into the 13.7s again at 99 mph. I'm sure he will be here to post.
Gary 95 Z28 M6 09-29-2002, 11:38 AM yeah ryan that toyota murdered you!!!!:D i forgot to add that i raced a z06 on the way home too, i think he was a little puzzled by the fact that i beat him TWICE from a 70mph roll, it was a good day for the camaro, me and jeff also got a nice ricer flyby on the way home on 71:rolleyes:
after that run i was extatic!! i know that if i would have been able to make a few more runs and try out a few different launches i would have hit 12s im sure of it!! im just glad things are finally starting to look good for the car! dont forget too i still have full weight in the car including leather seats and i still have the stock 3.42 gears, oh low 12s arent too far away anymore!!:D
i also wanted to know if anyone has lt1 edit or something i can use to tune and log some track runs so that i could get the car dialed in, or does anyone have experience with lt1 edit or tunercat or whatever, i may end up buying something now cuz i think that pcmforless might be hurting me
CANTONRACER 09-29-2002, 12:01 PM You have ODB_1, which I am sure you already knew, but by having that, it is a big perk for you. LT1_Edit is going to cost you around $200 plus a cable to interface. There are free scanning programs for your version also(just need a cable). A little more the a pcmforless reprogram cost, but you can reprogram yourself as many times as you want.
Word of advice, there is no documentation to using the software if you buy it, very short learning curve. But once you play with it, very interesting on what you can control and what you can modify.
The reason I say it is a perk for you. I have a 96 Z28, which I am sure you know is ODB_II. My LT1_Edit cost with a GP, $500. My scanning software cost, $250. Ouch.
jpolz 09-29-2002, 01:09 PM Ok guys, here's the vids and photo's from the track!
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/mosh_polzner
Congrats on the Z06 kill there gary! That's awesome. I must say you showed quite a bit a patience with that ricer on the way home. I was gonna chase him down at first, but decided it wasn't worth the gas. Lemme know if you guys have any problems.
Grease 09-29-2002, 07:46 PM Holy Crap!!!:eek: That toyota was something else! That was one hell of a holeshot, what kind of 60ft time did he get?
Did he have a SBC under the hood of that thing because 11.7 @ 106mph isn't really what a turbo car would run. A supra would run 11.7 @ 125mph!
95_RipperZ 09-29-2002, 08:10 PM His 60' was a 1.5 :eek: That thing slowed way down though after the holeshot. Here is his slip. IT did not at all sound like any type of SBC. Sounded like a 2 stroke motor that I had in my old four wheeler. My guess is it was a 4 banger. All his windows were plexiglass, no roll down, no bumper, nothing. It was completely stripped.
1.536= 60'
4.669=330'
7.345= 1/8
91.86= 1/8 mph
9.678= 1000'
11.782 @ 106.94 mph 1/4
CANTONRACER 09-29-2002, 08:14 PM And I thought I had topend problems. I have seen those guys out before. Loud, very loud cars, I believe they are some of the rotary cars. If I remember correctly, their motors are very small but powerful.
Grease 09-29-2002, 11:08 PM I think the motor is not very powerful from that timeslip, his car is just very light. One of our parts guys at work has an extremely lightweight mopar with only 300 flywheel hp and runs high 11s with similar kind of 60ft times. Actually its a stripped down Dodge Lancer GT (I've never see one on the street nor do I know anything about them) and it has a 318 2-barrel.
It doesn't matter how much HP they have anyway because both cars are way faster than mine.
99snkklr 09-29-2002, 11:15 PM Hey Gary its Brian Flick! Sounds like your car is getting to be where it should be! I am still trying to get abck to the track to get a clean pass. I ran two passes with my new set-up on my 26x10.5x16 ET Streets. My very first run ever on Slicks. I aired the tires to 15psi smoked them up REALLY good using 2nd gear!. I staged my SS and brought the rpms to 5000 and dumped the clutch! The car hooked AWESOME, all I saw was blue sky! Steve and Chris(black 96 Z28 w/ "INSANEZ" plates, and Chris has my old Iroc-Z) said it looked like I pulled the fronts a bit and had full extension on my front suspension! It felt like I got a$$-ended by a suburban doing 80mph :eek: About 1-2 seconds after I launched I mashed the pedal to the floor, my damn slicks broke loose and the rear swung out to the left. I was heading at a 2 o'clock position towards the spectator's side wall I slammed 2nd the the rear swung the other direction and I was at almost a 11 o'clock postion toward the center line and stayed that way until I slammed 3rd, then it got straight! I ended up with a 12.5@114mph and a 1.7 60ft. My second pass I dropped tires to 12psi and launched at 5500rpm. I dumped it and hooked great, 1.6 60ft, and it stayed straight! I knew this was my 11 sec pass! I slammed second and only got a chirp. I was racing a LSI T/A. He dialed in at a 13.5 and me at 12.25. I left the line and then 1.25 seconds later I got to leave the line. I shot passed him about 7 car-lengths from the start line. I knew I was going to breakout because the T/A was running consistand 13.4-13.6. I went to shift to 3rd near the concession stand and I shifted to 5th instead! I didn't realize it though for at least 2-3 seconds. I felt the car slowing down but my tach was still at 5000rpm(as the clutch was slipping do to my dumba$$). I lokked down at the shifter and realized what I had done, so I pulled it over to 3rd and passed the clocks to a 12.9@107 with a 1.60 60ft. This was in June with temps around 80-85, and BEFORE Thompson switch to their high heat compound and on a Wensday night, no TRACK PREP! ALL in all I knew that 2nd pass would've been a 11. Rapid Motorsports www.rapidmotorsports.com did my package. When he first started with his 9sec WS6, the car had the exact same complete package(down to my spark plugs) and he ran 11.6@124 with a 1.5 60ft with 26x11.5x16 et streets!
Gary 95 Z28 M6 09-29-2002, 11:31 PM brian, i heard from rich that youve been having traction problems or something like that, need me to teach you how to drive that thing??;)
jeff, that was my first run when i had to shut down halfway, you can tell i quit right after 3rd gear, how did you guys like my launch:rolleyes:
99snkklr 09-30-2002, 02:31 AM LoL, I know how to drive the car, just can't seem to get tires to hold it, without going to a full slick! When driving on the street, if I pull away slowly and ride 1sy up to 15-20mph like normal and then punch it the SS immediately breaks the tires loose and I speed shift to 2nd still spinning and occasionally will spin until I let up to shift to third ;) Next year I am going for a different look! I will get skinnies for the front( 15x4 or so) and run M/T ET Streets 26x11.5x15 (15x10) out back. I plan on getting a new Torque arm, one that moves the tailshaft mounting of the torque arm to mounting to a brace for the chassis, like Spohne or BMr trackpak, along with some 12 way adjustable shocks. I am also looking into an Agostino Racing Engines(same place that supplied my current H/C) www.agostino-racing.com , shortblock. I am looking at either a 360, 382, or 391. My existing heads will carry me into 415+ cubic inches and the spings are good for 650 lift. I just don't know if I will go with an iron block or aluminum. The iron will for sure hold my 150-300 direct port nitrous kit :D :cool: :bow: . I should be able to hit somewhere around 440-475 RWHP NA and 600-775 RWHP w/ N2O. My torque should be about 435-500 NA and 635-850 RWTQ.
jpolz 09-30-2002, 04:52 PM Oh yeah....for all that were interested, here's my best slip of the day....
REACT - .860
60 FT- 2.034
330 FT - 5.770
1/8 ET - 8.872
1/8 MPH - 79.56
1000 ET - 11.502
1/4 ET - 13.797
1/4 MPH - 99.08
I was begiining to think my car was sick, but I was only .04 off my best time ever. Not too shabby for the few mods that I have.
Grease 09-30-2002, 08:35 PM I agree, not too shabby Jeff. I was only a tenth faster last year with alot more in performance mods than you, yet identical 60ft times:metal:
http://www.geocities.com/greasemunkeey/ETQCR01.jpg See what I mean.
I still think one of you should have driven down here and borrowed my drag radials. Oh well, the year is not yet over.
95_RipperZ 09-30-2002, 09:59 PM Damn, the year is over for me. Insurance is off starting the 8th. Are they open Thurday nights?
Jeff, how do you pull those 60' times? Man, I see your slips and then mine and gets me upset. :p
Grease 09-30-2002, 10:14 PM If you want your car to be as fast you have to get a dark green one:D
you know I'm not serious

Haha. It must be. At least my color is more rare. :eek: :p
Now that I think about it, any one up for going to D42 on Friday? I don't leave for Florida until Saturday morning. nOne last chance for me to set a new ET.
It is too bad I didnt wake up til noon on Sunday. I was suppose to install the suspension stuff with my dad. Guess it will have to wait til winter. I wanted to see how much it would help too.:(

Grease 10-01-2002, 06:30 AM I think I can work something out for this Friday. I might have to race in a Mercedes-Benz:eek: I'll see what happens and let you guys know by then.
jpolz 10-01-2002, 07:45 AM I might be available Friday night! Where we talking about going, D42, Thompson, Norwalk?? I"ve always been partial to Thompson, no more so becuase the fixed the palce up real nice.
95_RipperZ 10-01-2002, 08:33 AM I will go whereever. I just want to get a new ET.
Right now they are calling for T-storms but it is only Tuesday. We will have to see how it will play out.

95_RipperZ 10-03-2002, 11:31 PM Well it is looking bad for tomorrow. Looks like it is going to rain. I am still going to keep an eye out and check. The weather people are never right so I might decide last minute to go. Any one else is welcome if they want. 42 will be the choice more than likely but Thompsons will be considered also.
Gary 95 Z28 M6 10-06-2002, 06:12 PM what about wed. at thompson or next weekend guys????
