Smack quote of the week & good article on 300 vs 500 design impact

Never thought of the Ford 500 and Chrysler 300 as competitors, but take the "C" out of the equasion, and it makes surprising sense.

BTW: Seems John Colletti isn't the only one who can take good swipes at competitors:
Trevor Creed, design chief at DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group, bristles at the suggestion that conservative styling ages better on the road, and is therefore more effective.

“You’ve heard people like J Mays and (GM’s) Bob Lutz say these things in their defense because they have nothing to stand on,” Creed said.

Going to a Bentley Arnage' for inspiration might well be seen in the future as sheer genius or "old-age" Chrysler fad chasing.

I personally can't think of a more staid and conservative company than Daimler.

When anyone cuts as deep or memorable an automotive impression as Lutz with the Viper coupe' at DCX, they should let us all know. The excitemant recent has been more about RWD V8 juice, not about high beltline boldness. Their recent stuff is box on a box. It's certainly working, from an early sales view, but may well be viewed as innovatve as the K car from a styling landmark standpoint in the final analysis.

I remember the last Intrepid and 300m had a bit of enthusiasm behind them when they came out......

We all see how they ended.

Ouch, although I really don't think your view is all that unfair really. You can't forget about the Hemi marketing machine. Without that magical word, and with the same lineup, I'm not sure Chrysler/Dodge has nearly the fanfare. You've got a homely (to put it politely) new Durango, an American Bentley and a new twist on the classic wagon. But if this is what it takes to wake GM out of its bland FWD slumber then congrats Chrysler!

Good call, but Im sure someone will say that Lutz dulled down the STS, and the CTS, XLR, and Lade's appearance wasnt done by Lutz.

But I guess teh Solstice is conservative as well? C6?

Malibu?

Honestly, that is quite radical styling compared to what the last generation was and considering this car is suppose to sell to the masses. for GM sticking its neck out a little.

The Malibu is a departure from the last gen, and if you look at it, from the standard Camry/Accord/Taurus.
Maxx is even a further step out of the norm. Which is why I got one!

yeah, it's pretty cool car. I like it for what it is and all the nifty features. The steering wheel and the Malibu plaque is the only 2 things that don't look quite right...haha. Oh, has anyone "snap" back the rear sunshade yet?? lol...I'm waiting for Maxx's cousin, the Pontiac's G6 to come out!

snap back the sunshade is a PITA! People go "oo what does this do?" and then they just tap it and WHAP! I cringe...its like when you slam down on the hatch of my Z not knowing there is a motor for that....
