Change oil light

Last night I was driving along, and my change oil light flashed on. I was planning on scheduling an oil change at the local chevy dealer today anyways. But later that night, the light went off. And then on again. It did this like, 5 times. I think it's still on now, but I'm not taking the car to work today so I don't know. What could possibly make it do this? Also, my oil pressure, sits right about 40. When I rev the engine, it goes up with the RPM's. I'm sure that's normal. But the light is my main concern.

Thumbs up Re: Change oil light

The light just reminds you that it is time to change the oil, that's all. There's nothing more to it.

Re: Change oil light

If the dealer doesn't reset it, or if you change the oil yourself, just reset it by turning the ignition key to RUN (with engine off), Push in the trip/oil reset button for a few seconds until it starts flashing, then release.

Re: Change oil light

The change oil light is nothing to be concerned about.....not like low oil pressure!

Mine has come on consistantly about every ~9500-10,000 kms / ~5800-6200 miles, but I've usually done the oil changes about every ~5000 kms / ~3000 miles or so, so the light is useless to me.

And yes, the oil pressure will go up with higher RPM's.....that's normal too.
