89 Iroc: 2 keys to start???

A friend just bought an 89 Iroc convertible off Ebay. He says that besides the regular ignition key there is another key that goes into the dash to the left of the tach that is an antitheft system. The second key is apparently a key with the chip in it like the later model ignition keys. This system is giving him problems and hes looking to bypass it. My first question is did this come from the factory with this system? Possibly as an option on verts? My knowledge of third gens is basically nonexistant, but it sounds to me like this was added by a previous owner as a theft deterrent. If this is not factory he would like to eliminate it, but if it is I'm assuming that the resistor mod would do the trick. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated

definately not factory and i would not advise buying a car on ebay, just too much stuff to worry about when you get it
just my .02 but yea, it's definately aftermarket
just get someone to take it out and have him sell it
he could get a little money out of it

If you get a car on ebay (and look at it first) then what's the difference than buying locally? You take the same risks.

No F-body comes with 2 keys as far as I've seen.

i just figured he didnt look at it
if you look at it and drive it, i see no problem doing ebay
i would just worry if you bid for one and got a piece of junk that you couldnt see or test drive first

just my .02
