Question Base tuning with F.A.S.T for first startup of 396. Questions within please.

The car is finally coming together and im wondering how this part of it is going to work. I am running the FAST as a standalone unit so there is no tuning at all I dont think. How would I go about getting a general tune before starting the car so I dont ruin things by dumping to much fuel into the cylinders or things like this. Is it as easy as selecting injector size, cam specs and stuff like this? I dont imagine it is as I havent even really looked at the program yet. I also have a question about the wideband option. I will be runnign the LT's open for a short time is this going to affect the wideband capabilities if its only reading from one header? I will have true duals as well would the O2 need to go in the X part where the two headers meet or is it fine reading from only one side?

When you bought your Fast system they should had sent you a start up program. If you have any experence with tuning it should be straight forward. I think open headers will affect you reading. Also I was told that the best place to stick the Wideband is near the collector on the header.

If you bought the unit new from a distributor it should have a base file for your vehicle's configuration. This should allow the car to start and run without doing any damage. But to verify this its always a good idea in the system configuration menu make sure all the parameters are correct i.e. injector sizes, # of cyclinders, firing order, MAP, etc.

IDOXLR8 is correct, the O2 should be installed about 4" from collector on one side of the header. That is the best place to get O2 correction reading.

I bought it new from a guy that planned on using it on his camaro. How would I be able to tell how it is configured for the initial startup? If it isnt setup right would it be that hard to get a base tune for my application?

So should the wideband O2 go in where the 02 Bung is welded on the header? I havent even looked at them yet?

Thanks for the help guys.

Well in the C-Com software there is an system configuration menu, you will have to look at those parameters to make sure all the data is correct. If not you will need to setup the parameters for your car. And the initial configuration file wouldnt be hard to get.

On back of the ECU there should be a info. decal (Serial #, dealer#, etc.) what is the part#? The part # will tell what config. file it has.

As far as the O2, if the headers currently have a bung already installed that should be appropriate. No reason to re-tap another bung.

Well if you can stand the noise, it shouldnt hurt anything until you can get the exhaust together. The only thing i could see would be that if the bung is close to the collector that's open could cause false readings, but for a short time would be ok. I wouldnt try to make O2 corrections until you get your exahust in place though.
