Darth Xed 07-01-2004, 08:30 AM First of all, I *NEVER* see anything in my neck of the woods... (this occured on Market Street in Boardman, OH)
Short of Lordstown Assembly being within 30 miles or so, there is probably no reason for the C6 to be out this way.
The odd thing is I passed a new Viper, the C6, an XLR, and a Lotus Esprit all in the period of about 3 minutes...
Don't know if it was all related or not, but it is odd to see those kinds of cars around here...
The C6 was either Precision Red or Mag Red... it was hard to tell because it was dusk.
I wanted to turn around and chase it down, but I got stuck at a red light too long going the opposite direction, and I lost too much time sitting there.
I was acting like a goofy little kid... my wife just sat there shaking her head and making fun of me. :o
guionM 07-01-2004, 08:51 AM Sounds like you came across a car mags comparison test. :)

That would make some sense.
It's just REALLY REALLY odd to see anything like that out this way...
I wish they would have pulled over for some coffee or something! ;)
For the record, the cars were not all one-after-the-other...
The Viper came first (Silver)... then about a minute later, the C6... I then turned onto S.R. 224, and saw a Black XLR, and then about a minute later a black Esprit.
When I saw the Viper I told my wife "Check out the Viper!". Then when the C6 went by, I just about wrecked the car and strained my neck trying ot look around.
Then when the XLR went by after making the turn.. I said "Something's going on!" :D

Ahhhhhhhhh, good call. I didn't even think about that one. There must be a few more cars in the comparison test. I would think a Porsche of some sort and maybe even a Farrari. I guess the XLR is there just to show the differences in the two platform mates.
How did that C6 look on the road?

That *IS* possible... I made a turn onto Market Street, and not long after saw the Viper...
There could have been other cars ahead opf it that I missed.
I'll have to keep an eye out for an article in a future mag issue with these cars in it! :)

You know, I really like the C6, all except the front clip... I dont hate it, but I really am having a hard time getting used to it being a "Corvette" front end.
It was dusk, so it was a little tough to see... and it went by pretty quick.
The lights and fog lights were on...
It did look nice-and-low. The stance was nice.
It looked wider too, on the road...
The tallights have a cool effect from what I saw. I see now about the 'afterburner' lighting effect they talk about.
I thought it looked really good overall. Better on the road than what I saw on the platform up at the Cleveland Auto Show.
The headlamp shape didn't stand out so much when passing it. (A good thing to me) That, though, could be a combination of the headlamps being on, but more likely from the angle of being seated in my car and looking at it from a lower point than standing up in front of it like at the auto show.
dream '94 Z28 07-01-2004, 09:49 AM I saw a C6 convertable at a Corvette auction over the weekend. They had the top down but the windows rolled up, guess they didn't want anyone touching the interior.....
The car looks great in person (isn't that almost cliche?). The interior is better, especially with the aluminum accents. I especially liked the accents around the display controls around the gauges, really set those apart, and sorta reminded me of the 300Z, and the aluminum rings around the guage dials really enhance the "3D design". I do wish they'd have put some aluminum or color acccent on the steering wheel.
Even though it's only inches shorter and narrower, the cars looks MUCH more svelt, more tossable, and in general much more althetic.
My only thumbs down is the plastic around the third brake light. I don't know if it's there as a styling element, for manufacturing, to make that light stand out more, or a combination, but it's not at all tastefull on this caliber of car.
And finally, being a champion of change...I like the front end.

I've seen more than my share of them out here. :)
Seems alot of articles that are in the US, but outside of Michigan have either San Francisco, LA, Oceanside (alot of Automobile Magazine articles come from there for some reason) or San Diego in it.
Big Als Z 07-01-2004, 12:52 PM Why would the XLR be in that comparison? If you saw SL500, SC430, XLR..ok, but the XLR would kind of be odd in that comparison.

Not really. The XLR is on the same platform as the C6 so I bet it is there to show the differences between the two of them. Since a lot of the Vette purists are pissed off about having to share the car with a Caddy, I bet they will point out just how different the two are. The whole reason for the comparison would be to showcase the C6 as compared to others since it is the only new one of the bunch.

To compare with its platform mate, C6...see what you're not getting for the extra $25K. ;)
Sixer-Bird 07-01-2004, 02:21 PM To me the car that stands out the most of that group is the Lotus Esprit. I doubt the current Esprit was any sort of benchmark for the C6. It's in its last year of production and really doesn't compete with the Vette.

Thats what I was thinking but who says the Esprit was part of the test and not some rich Ohio guy driving by at the same time? ;)

This *IS* possible...
It was the last 'standout' car that I saw, BUT.... I can say pretty safely there aren't many Lotus's running out here, and I've never seen it before, and I notice these things... so... I would assume it was part of the group, but I can't say that for sure obviously.
:)
BigBlockChevy 07-01-2004, 11:08 PM you sure it was an esprit and not an elise/excige?
Big Als Z 07-02-2004, 01:40 AM Still dont get it. I know they share chassis, but you dont see the ES330 in a comparison with the Camry? One is made for luxury, one is made for sport and the price shows that. I can see why, but IMO a waste of a comparison.

The reason is because there was such a big deal made that the Corvette has to share it's platform with another car and this makes a lot of Corvette people upset(I really don't know why). Every little change on the Corvette is scrutinized by all the fans(and there are a lot of them) so the shared platform is a big deal. Just think of the controversy of the exposed headlights. Anyway, my guess is that they will compare the two and show how the Vette is a lot different and mush more sporty and compare the two in such a way that is leaning towards Vette fans. The XLR is only there to compare with the Vette and not really the others in the group.
Also, the reason you don't see an ES330 compared with a Camry in this sort of way is that no one gives a sh!t about those cars.

Yes, I am positive.
SNEAKY NEIL 07-02-2004, 08:47 AM Yeah, the two Lotus cars look absolutely nothing alike and can't really be mistaken for each other.

They needed to test both cars to tell them that the 400hp, 6spd C6 will be more "sporty" then the XLR? Hell, they could have emailed me, I would have told them that.

There's a lot more to a car than just it's motor.
H8 B N SLO 07-06-2004, 01:26 AM Darth, your from the area and don't know about the car cruise at Chili"s? All the cars were there (don't remeber seeing the Lotus though). There is usually about 3-400 cars every saturday night. The XLR was parked behind my buddy Ron. There were 2 new body style Vipers there and then the C6 pulled in. We all went over to check it out (about 10 of us F-body guys). The car was a preproduction Pilot car. Either #56 or #57 of 60. The guy driving it was an electrical engineer for GM and was just in town for the weekend visiting family. He was to ivauate the car and then report what he thought of the car and of any problems or changes that should be made. He said on the way there they had it up to over 140mph. We talked a little about the performance and he said he thought it was the same as the ZO6 but it had more power down low where the Z makes its power at the high end of the RPM range. He let us all sit in it and take some pictures. Very cool. I really do like the interior better than the C5 but I just don'y care for the look. When the C5 came out I was like "I need that car!" With this I am like it is nice but would still take a current ZO6. Now when the next ZO6 comes out with 500hp I may end up changing my mind.
Sorry guys no magazine comparo, just a bunch of old guys leaving the car cruise.
There was a yellow Ferrarri (360?) Spyder that drove through and a few Prowlers etc.
Darth, stop down one saturday night, it was the first time I have been down this year but all the F-body guys go and the hang out at Monroe muffler afterward.

AH!!
Thanks for clearing things up!
Actually, I go to Chili's probably twice a month to walk around... figures I'd miss that.
Very cool that you got some 'hands on' time with the C6!!!
I didnt think the Viper or Lotus or XLR were local cars, because I just haven't seen them around before.
It was the first non-red new style Viper I've seen locally, and the only XLR I've seen prior in the area is a dark red metallic one...
Anyway, Thanks for the info!!
PS: I have noticed you guys parked at Monroe quite often! :) I remember a black WS6, a few red 4th Gen Camaros, and a 3rd Gen in there too that are regulars.
I usually just tool by in my Monte! :o Makes me miss the Z28... :( I've often wondered if any of you guys were board members.
Big_Z 07-09-2004, 09:02 PM I just saw a silver C6 in Portage, Indiana, wednesday night, parked at a pizza place on route 6 and county line road. I didn't get to stop and check it out, I was half a mile away at church and it was gone when I was done :o Would have really liked to have checked that out a bit.. I saw one at the auto show but I couldnt get that close to it as i could've, there.
GN1270 07-10-2004, 11:44 PM How about an XLR-V ??
97z28/m6 07-11-2004, 01:24 PM last week i saw a C6-orange and a G6-silver.
