need some wheel help

I decided to keep my wheel purchase on the simple side. I'd like to get 2 new wheels like I have and put them on the rear. I currently have 15x7's at all corners. I know the wheel I have is made in many sizes... 15x3 up to 15x15.

On the Summit and Jegs site, the only backspacing options for the 15x10 shown are 3 5/16", 4 7/8" and 7 1/4". I was under the impression that optimal backspacing for a 2nd gen is 5.5" with a 10" wide rim. Do you guys think more options are available than they list? Would 4 7/8" be okay? The centerline site doesn't show much info outside the wheel size.

Also, what size tire typically goes on a 10" rim? 285? 295?

I searched on nastyz28 and it seems like everyone has a different answer to questions about backspacing

My wheels are 9.5 and take a 275 so you should be ok with a 295 or even 315 on a 10 " wheel. As for backspacing you'd probably be best to get a tire shop to let you try a couple of 10" wheels with different backspacing to check for fit. I think 4-7/8 would be ok- but that's easy for me to say sitting here. :)

I have 295-50-15 T/A's on Auto Drags, 10" w/5" BS. Or at least I thought it was 5". I bought them used and that's about what they measured at, but could very well be 4 7/8.

Anyway, clearance to the inside is good, but tight to the outside, even with rolled lips. It rubs only on big bumps. I'd say that if I had to do it again, I would go w/5.5 BS, so I guess what you have heard is right.

All that beef out back sure looks good, so I'll live with it.

What I like to do is find a buddy with a pair of wheels that have the same backspace I'm considering (or more, and just use a spacer). Just put one wheel on your car and see if it fits. You should be able to estimate how far out the wheel can go, and then you can order up a set of wheels that will be almost a perfect fit. :cool:
Lots of guys with classic cars like us have 5" or 5.5" inch backspace, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding someone to help you out, especially in California! And remember: if you get your setup on and it sticks out too far, you're screwed. If the wheels are set in a little too far, you can always space them out a little, so it's safer to buy a little more backspace than you think you need. :)
