Has anyone ever used flower to wipe off aluminum polish

I was talking to a freind of mine the other day about polishing the rims on my car. I told him that I hated doing this and mostly hated wiping the polish off after applying. He told me to sprinkle a little bit of flower on the rag you use to wipe the rim off and it will take the black stuff right off. So I tried it today and it worked. I don't know why or how, this was a new thing to me and the rims just easily wiped clean without going streaky or leaving scratches.Has anyone else ever heard of this, or could anyone explain to me how this works.

I did that too back when I had my 88 Camaro. It was something my dad told me to do. I don't know, maybe it's some old hot-rodding thing???

I was recently told by Mag Masters that polishes my wheels when I really want them to look good to use Corn Starch. When they told me that I must have had a 'Yeah right' look on my face because said they were not kidding. They had just finished polishing some other things for me and I tried it and it worked great. They said the corn starch is very fine and will not scratch the aluminum. It's probably the same with the flour.
