not your average exhaust question

i have a "clicking" noise coming from my cars underside when i throttle and im afraid something in the exhaust is broken like something in the cat or in the muffler.

the sound is mostly coming from the underside like below the floorboards and sounds more from the passenger side. im taking it to a muffler shop tomorrow to see what the verdict is. my dad had a 1972 camaro and he had the same problem with it before. i just had valve job and head gaskets replaced, heads machined so i dont think its an engine problem unless they didnt put something together properly.

if the muffler is broken, what should i replace it with? i have hooker super comp long tubes, y pipe, FOUR inch pipe that goes back over the axle to the spintech, dual 3 inch outlets...i can ditch the 4 inch sewer pipe if i have to, but i dont want to spend a lot of money. i really like my tips, so a whole catback isnt nessicary. any ideas?

maybe just an exhaust leak at the collector on the headers or up where the headers meet the heads. i know you said it comes from under the car but maybe it just sounds like it is, and could be by the heads? just a thought.

one of the heat sheilds may have come loose and is rattling agains the exhaust...

if it's from under the car it shouldn't be to hard to locate with a lift

maybe they didnt put the headers on correctly when they took them off to do my head work. they didnt seem thrilled to take them off. ill look today at the muffler shop

If it is more of a "ticking" sound it is probably a collector gasket. Where the header meets the y-pipe. If it is louder it could be the hest shield or the exhaust hitting the floor boards.

its a clicking or ticking noise that progressively gets louder with higher acceleration, if you rev in neutral it pops quite a bit. i think something is definently restricting the flow and causing flow problems
